#2612 F35 Change: Drop the the "Allow SSH root login with password" option from the installer GUI
Closed: Rejected 3 years ago by churchyard. Opened 3 years ago by bcotton.

Since 2019 the Anaconda installer GUI hosted an option called "Allow SSH root login with password", that made it possible to enable password based root logins over SSH on the installed system. This was always meant as a temporary option to help users transition to either using key authentication or normal users with admin privileges. And after two years of transition period it is now time to drop the option from the GUI.

There seems to be a fairly clear signal that this change is not desired by the relevant stakeholders.

I think it'd also be good to move the status of this feature from "deprecated" to "no plans for removal in foreseeable future".

I am indifferent to this option staying or going, but based on discussion feedback I vote:

@m4rtink I'd like to meet with you and discuss the future of the "Allow SSH root login with password" option. Will contact you.

@churchyard Sure, sounds like a good idea to meet and talk about the option. BTW, there is now also an an idea to improve the root configuration screen UX in various way spawned by a PR: https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/3262

So it might be actually a rather good time to think about how the override could be presented to user in a better way when we decided to keep it. :)
