In order to move forward with the next election, we need to determine which mandatory questions FESCo would like to have asked of candidates.
We need FESCo to please identify the questions before 2020-05-19 so we can properly communicate them to candidates and so they enough time to answer them.
In case the selection is not complete by 19 May, the Election wrangler will use the same set of questions as the last election cycle (see ticket #2261).
Some additional questions are listed in the wiki, or you may come up with new ones.
Obligatory thread: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/YCJ3FG5SMXK5BPCUN76VUEBMTN4DTJDT/
I don't mind reusing the previous questions, but if there is some different proposal, I'm happy to discuss it.
I would really prefer some new ones. I'll try and come up with some.
Please throw anything that comes to mind out here. Even bad ones will encourage competition ;) We can do some kind of selection later.
I'd like to suggest one (rephrasing welcome):
"What do you feel is Fedora's place in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux development pipeline and how should Fedora address conflicts between RHEL and Fedora requirements?"
From the questions on the wiki, I like those two:
2 . Why do you want to be a member of FESCo? (...) 6 . Currently, how do you contribute to Fedora? How does that contribution benefit the community?
With some encouragement for short answers those might put some personality into the otherwise pretty dry and technical interviews

I'd prefer new ones.
+1 to @sgallagh question, though would appreciate some rewording because it sounds like Fedora is just thing for RHEL while it is more about sponsorship and tight collaboration.
+1 to the "2 . Why do you want to be a member of FESCo?"

I'm fine if we want to clarify that Fedora is not solely a RHEL incubator somehow, but the essence of the question really is "How should we handle cases when Fedora's needs and RHEL's needs are at odds?"
Please write a short essay describing your background, your past contributions to the Fedora Project, what you hope to accomplish, why community members should vote for you, and any additional information you feel would be helpful to community members.
(This is essentially a combination of Proposals 1 & 2 with some editorial trimming to prevent duplication in answers)
I recommend Proposal 3. The defined question format makes it easier to read and allows easier comparison between the candidates' positions. The was a strong desire expressed to allow for more free-form answers as well, so Proposal 3 provides the best balance.
Indeed, proposal 3 sounds good. I'd be happy with either that or proposal 2.
Ranked choice: 3, then 1. I think proposal 2 is too free-form.
Ranked choice: 3, 1, 2.
Technically +1 to 3, +1 to 1 and -1 to 2.
Ranked choice: 2, 3, 1
Ranked Choice: 3, 2, 1 Though I would vote +1 for all of them ...
BTW I forgot to explain why I would -1 proposal 2: I am afraid that "write an essay" might appear to be too intimidating for some potential candidates.
@psabata, @ignatenkobrain, @dcantrell, @bookwar vote?
Was pretty sure that I voted… +1 for 3rd option.

I am concerned about questions 2) and 3). 3) is charged and 2) may provoke the "which contributions benefit Fedora more" discussion. But let's try it out. I just would recommend future FESCo (whoever they are) to revise those questions again based on how this round goes.

I like proposal 3 the most, with the exception of question 3 in proposal 3. It should be rephrased. "How should we handle cases where Fedora's and Red Hat Enterprise Linux's needs are at odds?" implies there is already a hostile relationship between RHEL and Fedora. Something like:
Or, you know, something else. The part "at odds" to me stands out as we are always expected to be on the defensive when it comes to RHEL.
