#2345 Nonresponsive maintainer: Dervim Gündüz (devrim)

comainainers:

- proj: -
- geos: -
- postgis: @jmilch, @maxamillion, @pkajaba, @pkubat, @praiskup

additional notes:
The GIS packages in Fedora are pretty outdated, and also developers upstream are starting to notice this [1]. For instance, current QGIS release have a hard-requirement on proj>=6.3.0. Furthermore, postgis is FTBFS and proj has a borken upgrade path.

@devrim did reply to the non-responsive maintainer post on fedora-devel [1], from his reply I understand that he is focusing on maintaining the packages in the third-parts yum.PostgreSQL.org repository, and I understand that he has no objections if someone else steps in to maintain the Fedora packages as long as he is kept as co-maintainer. However, he has not followed-up to my request to be added to the package.

To resolve the situation, if there are no objections, I'd like to formally become maintainer of these packages.

This is a ticket for the Fedora's Policy for nonresponsive package maintainers.

+1 to add @smani as a main admin while keeping @devrim as a comaintainer.

Also +1 to the normal procedure in case the proposal above does not gain enough votes.

Please also add GRASS GIS (https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/grass) to the list as it is maintained by devrim, too, and depends on GDAL, PROJ and GEOS as well.

@neteler Since you took care of grass lately, it'd probably make more sense if you formally took it over? I personally don't use grass, and am not familiar with the package (whereas I already maintain the mingw counterparts of gdal, geos, proj).

@smani fine for me, effectively I am maintaining it anyway, see https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=1972 .
I just don't know what the procedure is for taking over maintenance of GRASS GIS here.

You just say you'd like to be added. I'll add you as admins to the packages in question after 3 days if there is no negative vote.

@churchyard please add me as a maintainer of GRASS GIS. Thanks

3+ days have passed, there was a +1 vote.

Added @smani to gdal, proj, geos, postgis.
Added @neteler to grass.

@devrim a week has passed. are you still interested in maintaining your Fedora packages (except being a co-maintainer on the ones that get new maintainers?)

@churchyard You can also give me pgadmin3

Hi,

@churchyard wait wait, I'm not that "nonresponsive" :)

How can I maintain the following packages again?
check_postgres
pgbouncer
phpPgAdmin
postgresql_autodoc
postgresql-ip4r
postgresql-pgpoolAdmin
postgresql-pgpool-II
python-psycopg2

Sorry, I must have misunderstood your reply. I've assumed you need new maintainers but want to be kept as co-maintainer.

Claim what you need by clicking the Take button in the left column on https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/check_postgres etc.

@smani the same procedure can be applied by you for pgadmin3.

it appears that @devrim are interested only in working on https://yum.postgresql.org/

That was my understanding as well.

If it's an option, I wouldn't mind co-maintaining pgbouncer (I'm not in the package group though). I submitted bug #1801301 as well as a pull request to fix it (which should also fix bug #1810267).

I'm not in the packager group though

You would need to find a sponsor to do this. There are several people following this issue tracker who can sponsor you incl. me (however, I am really swamped right now).

Also tagging with meeting, to agree what should really be done here.

We've talked about this on the today's meeting. Decision was made that this will be closed as accepted.

@devrim Claim what you are interested in by clicking the Take button in the left column on https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/check_postgres etc. You are still a co-maintainer on all of the packages, but packages that won't get a primary admin in 6 weeks will be retired from Fedora rawhide (Fedora 33+).
