#2122 Exception request: Allow apps written in Rust in modules to be set as default
Closed: Accepted 4 years ago by churchyard. Opened 5 years ago by ignatenkobrain.

Long story short:

  • All Rust packages in F28 and F29 are outdated and some are FTBFS
  • In #2068 all Rust packages were opted out from branching (which means that F30 does not contain any single Rust crate and apps written in Rust)
  • In #2114 FESCo agreed to not allow setting defaults for modules without FESCo exception
  • We (Rust SIG) do still plan to add more Rust apps into Fedora (most of work done by me and @eclipseo)

I would like to ask FESCo to grant us exception to set those modules as default: it is new content which does not and will not affect any other parts of Fedora and asking each time for new exceptions sounds just wasting of time. I don't know exactly how many apps we will add, but probably we are talking about more than 5 of them.

I asked @ignatenkobrain to request a blanket exception because these specific packages are all guaranteed to be new content and therefore safe to make default.

+1 from me.

I have already 3 apps I need to modularize: sd, skim, lsd. Another one will be silver (https://crates.io/crates/silver) soon.

+1 given the blanket exception is only applied on new content (not available in Fedora before)
