#1895 May 2018 elections to FESCo - not enough candidates
Closed 5 years ago Opened 5 years ago by jkurik.

I would like to ask FESCo for a guidance, as at the end of the Nomination period (see the time-lines on the Election page) we have not reached the minimum number of candidates required by the FESCo election policy. According to the policy there should be at least 5 nominees (125% of open seats). I would have two proposals how to deal with the situation:

  1. As we have the same amount of nominees as we have open seats, we can simply skip the voting and, if FESCo approves, accept all the nominees as new elected FESCo members.
  2. We can prolong the Nomination period for specified number of days/weeks and give people from the Fedora community time to nominate more potential members.

If FESCo decides to deal with the situation in a different way, I will be happy to assist as an Election Wrangler.

I'd got for 2. (i.e. ask for more candidates to nominate), and then fall back to 1. if nothing changes in a week.

I didn't added my name because now is mandatory to fill a questionnaire.

We currently have approval from 4 FESCo members, voting for the @zbyszek 's proposal

Once there will be at least one more approval from a FESCo member (which will be more than 50%) and we will have no "-1", I will consider the proposal as approved by FESCo and I will re-open the nomination for one more week.

FESCo members who have not voted in this ticket yet: may I ask you please to provide your approval/disapproval/comments ?

@itamarjp Speaking from experience, FESCo is an important time commitment. The one time questionnaire thing is probably as much work as the average weekly meeting. Also, Fedora contributors are mostly volunteers who have no chance to meet and know all candidates. The questionnaire–interview is the only mechanism we have to convey information about the candidates' plans. Without it, we would be forced to vote only for people we already know.

+1 here for option 2.

Can you be more specific? Do you mean to agree with @zbyszek's take on it (give it a week, then fall back to option 1)? If not, can you say what number of days/weeks you're voting for?

Yes, +1 to what @zbyszek proposed:

"ask for more candidates to nominate), and then fall back to 1. if nothing changes in a week."

@jkurik That's +5 to @zbyszek's proposal. It's approved. Please announce the extra week starting today and if no new nominations come in by then, we'll accept the current nominations without a vote.

The Nomination period has been prolonged:

The prolonged period now ends on May 31st @ 23:59:59UTC.

Proposed schedule for the rest of the elections follows:

Task Starts Ends
Interviews June 1st (Friday) June 5th (Tuesday)
Voting Setup & Validation & Publishing of interviews June 6th (Wednesday) June 6th (Wednesday)
Voting period June 7th (Thursday) June 13th (Wednesday)
Result Announcement June 14th (Thursday) June 14th (Thursday)

Should we go ahead and mark this closed?

Sure.

Also I'm a retroactive +1 to the decision.
