#1864 Revival of Electronics Lab spin in process
Closed: Invalid 6 years ago Opened 6 years ago by herrold.

It turns out to be possible to revive a otherwise moribund spin. A post to the general 'spins' mailing list produced some interest. Based on guidance, I have produced a new KS config and populated it in a fashion similar to another.

Differences from the template and on top of the base are:

  1. use of XFCE, the one true WM

  2. should be 'ready to go' out of the box to work with the Arduino class of controller. I have a commit in their tree, solving a Freedesktop deployment issue a few months ago, and I use their IDE without problem

  3. should work 'out of the box' for doing printed circuit board design, although some 'footprint' packagings have been released under FOSS compatible licenses, and more can be done here. CERN has pushed kicad to become quite useful over the last couple of years, and DigiKey released their footprint library in response

  4. should just work for the numeric part of the computations in doing circuit design

  5. support for the several approaches on serial / JTAG devices -- USB based support should 'just work'

  6. there are some parts I use for the Espressif family (ESP-8266, ESP-32) which I'll test and add (I have local packaging which should be transferable to Fedoraproject)

Dennis suggests that some changes are on the horizon for the F29 timeframe, seemingly as to : advocacy / communication matters.

I request confirmation (and as we need to add anything more) guidance to make sure this spin will become a 'first class' examplar of what is possible under Fedora -- it has obvious application for lug / Linuxfest uses

The process for this is to file a change request following standard fedora change process. not filing a FESCo ticket asking for the addition. We look forward to seeing your change come across our queue. however this current request is invalid.
