#1624 Add FreeIPA 4.4.1 to Fedora 25
Closed None Opened 7 years ago by abbra.

= phenomenon =
FreeIPA team wants to add FreeIPA 4.4.1 to Fedora 25 after Alpha milestone.
4.4 series were not released to Fedora earlier because Alpha deadlines were overlapping with RHEL deadlines and FreeIPA team was busy testing 4.4 for RHEL 7.3 beta release.

= background analysis =
FreeIPA 4.4 had intensive testing in RHEL 7.3 beta environment for about two months during which more than 140 tickets were fixed since 4.4.0 release in June, greatly improving performance and stability of FreeIPA. In adition to traditional use cases which we saw in use by Fedora users through the reported bugs and communication upstream, RHEL downstream QE team did test a number of enterprise features which rarely get bugs reported in Fedora itself.

All dependencies for FreeIPA 4.4 were added to Fedora 25 in due time and are available as part of Fedora 25 Alpha already.

= implementation recommendation =
We are confident that FreeIPA 4.4.1 release will be a worthwhile addition to Fedora Server 25.

sgallagh asked me to mention this, so I will - I'll be able to hack up a run of the openQA FreeIPA tests with the update applied, I'll do it today or tomorrow. There is no nice clean automated mechanism for running the openQA tests on updates-testing submissions at present, but I can do it in an ugly not-at-all-clean-or-automated way by monkeypatching the test on the staging instance and forcing a test run with a variant build ID.

In most cases, I would hesitate to approve a large change like this post-Alpha. However, this specific project has been under heavy testing inside Red Hat for RHEL 7.3 beta (as Alexander noted) and is also being tested by openQA.

I'm in favor of adding this to the F25 approved changes, assuming that Adam's openQA run doesn't see serious issues with it. (This will also be a good addition to the Server Edition Talking Points, as there are numerous new features in this release.)

I see this as a request for approval of some Change but do not see any Change page created for this yet. If there is any Change page already available, can it be provided here? We used to add approved Change information to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/25/ChangeSet

I've added a change page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/FreeIPA4.4

Note that we have not filed the change before alpha freeze for the reasons stated in this ticket.

Change to be a request for updates exception.

We discussed and accepted this during the last meeting:
