= phenomenon = The package "esound" has been retired without the approval of the package maintainer, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1251697#c3
= reason = The person who retired the package did (so far) not comment why this happened, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1251697#c9
I think it is highly questionable that a person is able to retire a package on the Fedora Project without even a) the approval of the package maintainer, b) a legal reason, c) commenting on this topic.
= recommendation = Please resurrect the package "esound" again (without a re-review), to correct this mistake (I do not think retiring the package happened in bad faith, however I also don't treat the occurred behaviour nice).
If the previous package maintainer of "esound" is meanwhile no longer interested, I am happy to take the package as maintainer.
The person who retired the package did (so far) not comment why this happened,
I have in fact spoken with the maintainer about it and discussed options, including un-retiring it, or moving it and the single package in the Fedora repos that depend on it to copr. I've left this is the hands of the maintainer. He's not reached out to me any further to discuss.
I have discussed this with the maintainer.
It originally happened because "dnf repoquery" was reporting it didn't depend on it, it's been long end of lifed and has numerous replacements. It turns out dnf was wrong, but even with that there is a single package that now has a dependency on it.
I have since discussed it with the esound maintainer and we discussion options including un-retiring it, moving it to copr etc. I have no real opinion other than it's completely dead upstream and left it up to him what he wished to do, and if he needed help to reach out, I've heard nothing more. The issue with dnf aside I personally believe that copr is likely a better fit for these two packages.
Okay, so the question is now: Jaromír, are you still interested in maintaining esound in Fedora?
Hi. I am still interested. I just wanted to wait for Peter to answer and ask him to take care of the resurrection so that he could fix the consequence of his action.
->pbrobinson: Peter, I know we had a short discussion about esound, but it ended up with no outcome. I mentioned, that I'm unsure whether COPR is suitable for this and asked you to always consult any removals of my packages from the distribution. I wanted to give Robert a chance to resolve the moon-buggy issue using a different component, but if it doesn't work well and he wants esound back, then the esound resurrection request makes sense. I also wanted to know whether you're willing to offer a help with the resurrection.
I see there is still discussions going on between people and don't see yet any specific proposal to FESCo so probably I will not pick this for tomorrow's meeting. I think if esound need to be un-retired then Peter can do it.
Given that Jaromír is still interested in maintaining esound, could we proceed here with un-retiring, please? I am happy to get a package co-maintainer of esound as well (if that helps).
I don't see any reply from Peter yet. I am not sure if he is away/on vacation. But if anyone here want FESCo to discuss/vote, please add meeting keyword to this ticket or you can wait for Peter's reply.
Since this on the agenda for today's FESCo meeting, I sent an email to Peter and this is the response that I received:

Hey,

I've added a comment to the ticket... comment #1
I don't see anything else I need to add
I guess that mean then esound maintainer jcapik need to un-retire esound package which is retired by Peter. At least Peter should have discussed with jcapik before retiring esound package.
Is it possible to resurrect the package without doing a new review?
esound has now been unretired (thanks, dgilmore).
