#1475 Darktable package retirement(?)
Closed None Opened 8 years ago by germano.

= phenomenon =
I am the Darktable package co-mantainer.
Fedora Packaging Committee rejected an exception about Darktable shipping Rawspeed

Therefore considering that the package violates Fedora packaging rules, I think that it should be retired. Meanwhile I cloned and updated the package into my Copr repository germano/darktable. By many months I don't receive any answer from the Darktable package owner, and:
- I cannot retire it because only him can do it;
- even if I had the retirement privileges I would not have retired it without receiving a feedback from him.

Meanwhile, some proven packagers (not package mantainers) are updating the (official) Fedora GIT Darktable repository, so instead of having a freezed package development, we have an active package development that sometimes breaks also Darktable features (lastest git commit that enabled LUA support but Darktable does not work with LUA 5.3)

Therefore I ask FESCo for suggestions and instructions.

If the maintainer is nonresponsive, then this policy can be followed to get the package orphaned:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers

Then you can adopt it and decide how to proceed. However, since it is an important package, it would be best to get it properly packaged so it can continue to exist in Fedora (IMHO).

It is not possible to proper package it making it compliant with Fedora packaging policy. The full detailed story at https://github.com/klauspost/rawspeed/issues/109

I will be retiring the package shortly.

The darktable package has been retired on master and f23 branches.

The FPC granted an exemption for darktable in their meeting today. I have restored darktable in pkgdb and pkg-git.

Is there a log of the meeting?
Thank you very much
