#1341 [URGENT] FESCo decision needed for Alpha release
Closed None Opened 9 years ago by sgallagh.

At last week's FESCo meeting, the question was raised about how to handle the Alpha release if the only thing blocking it was the network install images. We deferred that discussion because there were still several other blockers on the table.

Since that time, two things have changed:
1. All of the other blockers are either fixed or just awaiting a compose to be fixed.
1. It has been discovered that the planned solution for network installs won't work and it's going to take more time to work out.

This came up at today's QA meeting and I volunteered to bring this question to FESCo out of band, since it really cannot afford to wait until our Wednesday meeting. Please vote here in the ticket immediately.

Proposal Part One: FESCo agrees to allow the Fedora 21 Alpha to ship without working network install media. The Workstation may ship with only its Live image, the Server may ship with only its install DVD and the cloud images may ship only with their pre-built images.

Proposal Part Two: FESCo asserts that working netinstall images are a blocker for Fedora 21 Beta and as such the work on getting them to function properly must continue even as we ship Alpha.

I am +1/+1 for the record.

im +1 to both parts, note that network installs will work in Alpha with no changes, but you will manually need to do extra work to make it have the experience that is intended by the products. We will be shipping the boot.iso still. It is just going to be a different experience.

I'm tentatively +1/+1.

Dennis, can you elaborate on what the extra work entails?

it would be disabling all the extra repos. and only leaving the base product one enabled. as shipped all boot.iso files would be generic installers

+1 to both parts of the proposal.

+1/+1 from me as well.

I'm for +1/+1. The proposals are reasonable.

+1/+1. (I would also be quite fine with a single netinstall that allowed installing any of the products if that were possible and easier.)

+1/+1 for the record. This seems to easily pass (whatever the total will end up being).
