#1298 F21 System Wide Change: The securetty file is empty by default - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/securetty_file_is_empty_by_default
Closed None Opened 9 years ago by jreznik.

For the 2014-04-23 meeting as the Change Proposal was announced on devel-announce list on 2014-04-11.

The securetty file is empty by default

Fedora Base Working Group discussed this Change on today's meeting (2014-04-11) and tends to support counter proposal to remove securetty entirely from the default PAM configuration (not from distribution) as discussed in the thread. Base WG would like to ask FESCo to weight it as part of decision making.

Formally:

Counter-proposal: Remove securetty from default PAM configuration and remove /etc/securetty, and note this in the release notes.

Details: this is just a change in util-linux package (not the source even; the pam files are packaged as separate sources). It's not referenced in authconfig or anything. Removing remove /etc/securetty will reduce confusion (since the normal semantics are that missing file = nothing blocked); that's in the setup rpm.

If this counter-proposal passes, I'll file two bugs against those packages for these changes to be made, and get in touch with the docs team about the release notes.

agreed change is rejected (0,-7,0)

agreed counterproposal: Remove securetty from default PAM configuration and remove /etc/securetty, and note this in the release notes. (+6,0,0

I'd like to see the Change page to reflect this decision or the new one, so we can track it as part of process.
