When I run fedpkg container-build on the master branch of the dist-git repo, it returned "Unknown build target: master-container-candidate Could not execute container_build: Unknown build target: master-container-candidate"

It seems like it could not figure out the rawhide target which should be f28-container-candidate
As a workaround you can use --target command line option and specify the target you want. However I think for rawhide it should be rawhide-container-candidate.

What version of fedpkg do you have? Version 1.29-5 should select the target correctly.
I'm using fedpkg-1.29-4.fc25 and 1.29-5 is still not released yet, :-)
