What does it do? I've failed to figure out what it's for, other than "something modem-related."

My inclination would be to defer to the NetworkManager developers on this. If it's generally-useful and doesn't have a huge amount of dependencies, it should probably be present by default.

@lkundrak, @thaller: Any opinions here whether to include NetworkManager-ppp in Workstation default install or not?
