#330 Make more GNOME Circle apps available out of the box
Closed: Fixed 5 months ago by aday. Opened 2 years ago by aday.

GNOME Software has a home page with sections of app tiles for "editor's choice" and "new and updated". Editor's choice includes apps from a list that's set upstream, and is restricted to GNOME Circle apps.

In F37 we had an issue: only 11 of the editor's choice apps were available in the Fedora repos, which was causing that section to be hidden. "New and Updated" was also being hidden due to there being stale app data.

The simplest fix is probably to make a few more Circle apps available as Flatpaks in Fedora. The full list can be viewed on the Circle website. Out of that list, the ones that are already included in the repos are Dialect, Cozy, Wike, Drawing, Fragments, DejaDup, Polari, Secrets.

@kalev is looking into packaging Authenticator.

@aday any further work planned here? We do have Flathub now enabled for users who opt-in, but for everyone else I guess we still need more apps to be provided by Fedora.

@aday can you provide a status update please?

I'm not entirely sure why, but the original issue report seems to be incorrect (maybe I was wrong to begin with, or maybe something changed).

It's the big banners on the Explore page are the GNOME Circle apps, and these are defined in Featured.xml. They are shown in sets of 5, so presumably there needs to be a minimum of 5 of these apps available for the banners to be shown. (I have some notes on this here.)

Doing a review, it seems that 10 apps are available in the default repos, so we should be in good shape there:

If I'm understanding correctly, the editors choice apps come from a combination of the upstream Curated.xml and our own downstream fedora-popular.xml. So should likewise be OK.
