I think the Fedora bookmarks in Firefox are a bit intrusive when doing a fresh install of the system. Bookmarks are something very personal. There are way too much bookmarks (and tags), even hidden ones in the "Bookmarks Menu" folder. I think it would better to move these links to start.fedoraproject.org.
This isn't something that the working group has much involvement in. I'd suggest reaching out to whoever is responsible for the start page. Design team?

No this is about Firefox default bookmarks. We have a patch to add those in, so it's squarely our territory.

I would just drop the custom bookmarks regardless of whether any changes are made to the start page. Or at least greatly reduce the quantity of bookmarks. They are annoying, not useful.
Yes, I agree that it would be good to reduce the number of preset bookmarks. Not sure about completely removing them though.
If there was a single folder of Fedora bookmarks, it would make it easier for users to remove them all if they wanted to start with a cleaner slate.
We discussed this issue at yesterday's WG meeting, and agreed that a good first step would be to slim down the number of bookmarks. @ngompa has kindly volunteered to do this.
