Nick at The Linux Experiment did a video digging into the user-friendliness of GNOME (running on Fedora Workstation!).
This may be of interest specifically to @aday, but I think this is something everyone would find interesting. A lot of what he brings up aligns with my own experiences and what others have told me, but some of it was a bit surprising too.
A few things I noted from it:
I think it's definitely worth reviewing this and seeing if improvements can be made for GNOME 42+ on this front.
The GNOME Tour is not very helpful because it doesn't show animations of the actual UI to describe what it tells users to do (for example, it doesn't tell or show someone how to access the application list grid).
This one is already known and tracked upstream, to a certain extent. If we wanted to action it, it would be a matter of recruiting someone to work on a new onboarding experience.
Both macOS and Windows users would be confused about GNOME's dock implementation, which does not work fully like how either does it The UX for manipulating windows is... poor and unintuitive.
If you could provide specifics I can look into these. Not sure when I'll have chance to watch the video.
