#178 Outstanding Fedora 33 UX issues
Closed: Fixed 3 years ago by aday. Opened 3 years ago by aday.

Listing these here, to track outstanding UX issues for the upcoming F33 release. This includes in-progress workstation issues as well as some results of the recent Fedora/GNOME test day.

  • (Welcome tour for the video (#175) - the video exists but we still need to do the integration work)
  • (Get gnome-tour packaged and make sure that it is being correctly launched after gnome-initial-setup has run)
  • (If we do remove photos and/or videos (#164), it leaves us with only 4 apps in the dash. We should add couple more, so it doesn't look empty.)
  • (Critical issue discovered in gnome-contacts - reported upstream here and there's a fix. We ought to make sure that it's included.)
  • Customizable app grid (new for this cycle)
    • The idea is that we should set a custom order of our own rather than sorting alphabetically by default (there's some relevant upstream design work here)
    • Outstanding interaction issues: 3092, 3093, 3094

  • +1 for the video tour
  • Defer to others on Photos Video Rhythmbox - mainly I just want stand alone audio files to play in something when clicked rather than face planting.
  • Gnome-contacts is arguably a final blocker, may not meet basic functionality test requirement; I've proposed an existing bug filed against Fedora 32 for blocker/FE. Please vote in that ticket if you can't make blocker review Monday.
  • Ideas for adding to dash: Text Editor, Terminal, Settings, Builder. Suggestion: Files should be above Firefox, top icon.
  • Is there something that could be used as a primer/test case for the customizable app grid? It might be a good idea if QA has a test case, to give i some visibility and make sure it can pass a basic functionality test.

I tested the latest daily build just now, and the tour works as expected, and has the video.

The idea is that we should set a custom order of our own rather than sorting alphabetically by default (there's some relevant upstream design work here)

It should be done upstream. There are very few differences between upstream and downstream default apps (Firefox, ABRT, LibreOffice, Rhythmbox), so there is no reason to do something custom for Fedora. It's easy to work Firefox, ABRT, and LibreOffice into upstream grid order. Rhythmbox is the only app we would need to keep in a downstream patch.

Mostly fixed, but still tagged for Fedora 33 milestone. Should we close it as fixed and open a new ticket to track UX issues for Fedora 34? Or other?

Yes, mostly fixed, and the outstanding issues are being worked on. Apologies for not closing this issue myself.
