LibreOffice Draw has just been split into a separate subpackage, to allow us to drop it from our default install.
Available LibreOffice programs: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base Currently installed by default: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw Desired end goal: Writer, Calc, Impress
Any objections? I don't think this needs to be discussed at a meeting since it's a small change. Please just object here if you don't want me to do this.
+1 from me
Do we have any other application preinstalled that could be used for drawing? Or we are fine with having none?
Let's leave this decision for the next meeting. I think default apps are very important and I don't want to have a "just a small change" mentality. I am +1 to removing it, but at the same time I want to make sure everybody has a chance to speak up at the meeting and that we do an actual vote to drop this.
(Also note that tpopela edited the last comment and asked a question.)
Also adding LibreOffice people to CC here: @caolanm @sbergmann @dtardon
fwiw, in rawhide, its basically just the .desktop and sdraw launchers that are in libreoffice-draw, the actual file->new->draw functionality belongs to libreoffice-core and is always available

I hear what you're saying here, @kalev.
I have an outstanding task to help the WG produce some guidelines for app selection. I hope to finish that task in the next few weeks.
So... what? We'd just be hiding the functionality? That seems like a pointless thing.
That seems like a pointless thing.
The selection of apps that we present to users does matter, both in a positive sense (good/relevant apps are good) and a negative sense (bad/irrelevant apps are bad).
Do we have a better alternative than LibreOffice Draw, then?

The proposal is to remove it without replacement. We don't need a flowchart app installed by default. Does anybody here actually use it? This is a really niche tool. Similarly, we removed Base from the default install long ago because few users require a database management application.
In contrast, Writer/Calc/Impress are replacements for extremely popular Microsoft Office apps that we need to be as accessible as possible.
This issue, and #33 (GNOME Music by default), are related to #125 (Guidelines for preinstalled and non-removable apps). So far there are no objections to the proposal to remove Draw, therefore I don't think this needs to be discussed at the 18 Feb meeting. But if there are 2 or more objections, the decision should be tabled until #125 is settled.
No objections noted so this removal can proceed. Beta freeze is this Tuesday, 25 Feb, in case it's preferred this change happens before then.

I think this decision should be reverted. LibreOffice Draw is the application used to edit PDFs. When a user tries to edit a PDF, they can open it with any LibreOffice application from the GNOME app selector. LO Draw will in fact be launched and open the file. If the file is saved, it will be saved as a .odg (Draw) file. When the user double-clicks on the .odg file just created, GNOME complains that there is no application capable of opening that file.
This is a very poor user experience for absolutely no reason: Draw is installed and working, makes the whole thing appear broken.
Please revert it.
