#872 Some pages use new translations, some use old translations, some dont use translations
Closed: Won't fix / Can't fix 5 years ago Opened 5 years ago by scootergrisen.

Even though https://getfedora.org/ seems to use newer strings changes i have made on Zanata if i visit a page like https://spins.fedoraproject.org/ it uses older strings and if i visit https://labs.fedoraproject.org/ it uses english.

Like at the bottom on the pages there is the common area that is the same on all those pages but instead of having the same text there are currently 3 version.

So for danish language i get these 3 versions for the "Join Fedora" link depending on what page i visit:
Deltag i Fedora
Slut dig til Fedora
Join Fedora

Instead of "Deltag i Fedora" as i would like on all the pages.

Was the "Join Fedora" text changed for all 3 websites in zanata?
If i recall, we should be pulling those translations [from zanata] upon website build.

I guess its ok now i guess i just had to wait for the text to update on the website.

But it seems silly that translators have to translate the exact same text multiple times in getfedora spin. alt. labs. arm. etc. for the bottom of each page instead of just having something like "common" for text that is reused on multiple pages so you only have to translate and change it one place.

Suppose i want i change the translation for "Fedora Developer Portal" for some reason.
Then i have to open something like 8 Zanata webpages and search for and change the text 8 times instead of just 1.

Currently for example if you look at the swedish translation there are multiple different translations for "Alternative Downloads" depending on what page you visit.
"Alternativa hämtningar" - https://spins.fedoraproject.org/sv/
"Alternative sätt att hämta" - https://labs.fedoraproject.org/sv/
"Alternativ att hämta" - https://alt.fedoraproject.org/sv/

Yes, correct, you have to translate them for every website. Websites are defined as projects in Zanata, and the platform is not able to cross check between projects if the exact same string is in some other place too. Also, I think the context in translations is important, so it is probably the best how it is now.
You are thinking just about headers or links, but what about a simple string within a more complex context? What if Zanata would add the translation for any string it is finding, without caring about the context?
I'm closing this a won't fix, or better can't fix, because it is not in our hands to make any changes here.
