#27 Embedding AskFedora on the website?
Closed: Fixed by codeblock. Opened by ankursinha.

Since we've moved to discourse, I've seen an admin setting there that lets us embed askfedora into other sites. Is this worth looking into---maybe embed it into the websites to make it easier for users to get to it?

We link to it in the footer, so I think it's pretty easy to get to already. What does embedding it buy us vs just linking to the full experience?

A UX design person will have to weigh in on this, but from personal experience as a user, footers aren't really given much importance. They tend to contain copyright information and so on. On the front page, I'm not sure how many people will scroll all the way down to find support in the footer. I expect most would stop at the download, and then use use a search engine to look up their query when one arises.

Embedding askfedora may be a way to give more visibility to the fact that we have active community support should any help at all be needed. It's one way of doing so---making "support" more prominently visible in general would be a good idea?

What does "embedding" actually entail here? Having a widget that has forum capabilties built in is kind of out of scope for getfedora.

It is probably a good idea to actaully have a more visible link to ask fedora though. So maybe changing the recently changed "documentation" in the top level back to "help" and then changing this to a dropdown with docs and ask in it.

IIRC this was the inital idea for the help menu, but we never added ask to it.

Yeh, I agree.

Ah, I didn't realise, otherwise I wouldn't have filed a ticket asking "help" to be changed to "documentation" :(

Could we do that please?

Help:
- docs
- askfedora

Since askfedora is only one of the communication channels for users to get help with, should we link to this wiki page instead? https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicating_and_getting_help

That features askfedora right on top but also exposes all the other communication channels we have?

If we are going to link to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicating_and_getting_help can we get that converted to a page on docs.fp.o so that users who have trouble don't get trapped in the wiki?

I created PR #75 to implement this. Does anyone object to how I've done it?
