#4 update target size of Server images
Closed 3 years ago by pboy. Opened 6 years ago by kparal.

Hello,

QA is trying to consolidate target sizes for all images built by Fedora into a single document that we can easily check, in a response to one of blocking images being oversize again [1]. The document of choice is this wiki page [2]. In a newly added column, the target size of each release-blocking image will be documented. (It can also contain target sizes of non-blocking images, but our major focus is on the blocking ones, of course). The target size will be a blocker for Fedora Final releases.

The target sizes for Server images are currently considered [3] as follows:

Server DVD 4.7 GB
Server netinst 700 MiB

We'd like you to think over whether this is still correct, decide on new numbers if needed, and then write it down into the document [2]. (If you decide to change it in the future, notifying us at the same time is very appreciated.)

We'd like to avoid the situation when the image goes oversize and the target size is simply bumped, because it adds delays to the release process. So please think ahead and choose a size that you really want to keep and block on it (You can of course also choose to have no=unlimited target size).

Server DVD is called "DVD", but it no longer marked as release blocking for optical media. So it's up to your consideration whether you keep the current 4.7 GB target (the DVD size) or change it.

The Server netinst image is not blocking for optical media, but Everything netinst is, and it would probably make sense to have the target size synchronized for all netinst media. The current target size of Everything netinst is chosen to fit on a CD (we might re-evaluate that in the future).

One additional release blocking image is aarch64.raw.xz image, for which we're not aware of any existing target size.

Thank you.

Since you haven't responded, I added some values to the wiki. Please verify and adjust if necessary.

Sorry, I thought I had replied to this. I think our previous stance was 4000MB to correspond to 4GB USB devices (not that we've ever gotten anywhere near that; I think our worst was just over 2GB).

OK, once you're decided on the new size, please simply update https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/28/ReleaseBlocking . Thanks.

the releases concerned are out of date.
