#138 Ansible assisted installation and configuration of NFS service
Opened 4 months ago by pboy. Modified 8 days ago

Tracking issue, part of the project to establish specifically supported services for Fedora Server Edition using Ansible

The current initial state of discussion is (as of June 2024):

  • John was able to get NFS up and running via Ansible, but it was a very simple use case (no id mapping).
  • found a couple of typos in the current draft of documentation article and ran into some issues.
  • We should discuss Ansible vs Cockpit. Both have their strengths, but writing common docs would be a PITA.
  • Emmanuel has some Ansible scripting, too, based on Robert de Bock's work

Created directories to store project related data:
fedora-server/fedora-ansible
fedora-server/fedora-ansible/docs
fedora-server/fedora-ansible/roles
fedora-server/fedora-ansible/files

Our goal:

Create a playbook to install and configure a workable, default configuration,

  • perform the installation step, ready to export
  • either a series of existing directories elsewhere in the file tree (by mount bind) to specify in a configuration file
  • or a series of dedicated sharable directories (on system level) stored in a special logical volume (or a series thereof), e.g. in /srv/nfsexport and specified in a configuration file
  • A hook and example how to handle storage for podman containers and probably another common use case (e.g. backup)
