#610 Kernel 5.5 test week
Closed: Fixed 4 years ago by sumantrom. Opened 4 years ago by jforbes.

Owner: Justin Forbes
Time Frame: 10th Feb to 14th Feb
Features: Kernel 5.5 rebase

As discussed at Flock, we will start hosting test days for each major kernel rebase (approximately every 8-10 weeks). It was discussed that we should extend this to a test week, to allow time for more participants. They have been incredibly helpful so far. As the 5.5 kernel is now released, I would like to get a test week in before we push the rebase to stable releases. I will have ISOs for USB images so that users can test on bare metal or in VMs, and the kernel will be available in the stabilization repo for users who wish to install it on existing systems

Awesome, I will get the bits set up and put the links here. Thanks for filing the ticket.

@sumantrom The current calendar event has very sparse information and doesn't even contain a link to the wiki. Can you please fix that? It should always include at least a link, that is easy to pre-generate and in case we forget to update the description with more useful info, people can at least follow the link.

@kparal I have updated the link. I will take this into account from the next time. Although I need to understand "why" the test days aren't anything showing up. This is not good.

For anyone confused by this sentence, Sumantro is referring to #614 . That is not directly relevant to this ticket, so let's talk about it here.

Results seen at the test result auto-submission:

222 tests ran who actually submitted results.
57 of those were with the newer 5.5.3 kernel showing the advantage of this being a test week.
9 of those were non x86_64, perhaps doing an IoT image for arm next time would be appropriate?

In my view, a very successful test week. Thanks for your help here!

Hey @jforbes, thanks for the stats.
I feel having a IoT image works as well. We are just starting, with CoreOS and IoT becoming editions, it will really be nice to have the image.
Thanks a lot for building the images and updating them for us!
