#301 Translations Testing Day Proposal
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by pycrash.

= phenomenon =
Translation test Day

= background analysis =
It is very important to test all the translation before Fedora 18's release, so Fedora can became a world wide Distro.

= implementation recommendation =
I propose the 2012-10-25 as a Translation Test Day. It is close enough to the release date so all the Translation will be ready and the 2012-11-01 is still available for testing last minutes changes.

Too close means Nothing can be fixed by translators, or build by developers for release, but only after release fix possible.

For several previous releases, the l10n/i18n teams have proposed and run a series of l10n/i18n test days which included translations checks along with other things. aalam, if you're planning to do that again, perhaps it would be the best way to go. Should we make this into the ticket for F18 l10n/i18n test days?

yes, for Fedora i18n, we are running 3 test day (l10n, i18n and installation). I will update ticket after i18n team meeting.

Thank you for creating the ticket.[[BR]]
It has been scheduled in the week of 2012-08-27 - 2012-09-04 as 'Review and correct software translation in built UI'.[[BR]]
Can we book the L10N (translation) test day on 30-Aug, Thursday?

aalam added 2012-09-06 to the schedule as 'Fedora i18n/l10n Test Day'...so do you want 09-06, or 08-30? Or both? Or neither? :) Thanks!

i18n team was agree for 2012-09-06 Test Day. As Noriko proposed l10n Test day, need to reconfirm with i18n team as we can do l10n and i18n Test day in same week.

Please notice that l10n test period (as review week) has already been defined on the schedule to meet devel-team schedule. So that any modification/fix made during this test period (prior to the deadline) can be included in the rebuild. l10n and i18n test days can be set on separate week if needed.

Test page is updated for Translation testing on Aug 30.

Adam and Aman[[BR]]

It is now confirmed by Jaroslav that the software deadline date is 2012-09-11 but not 09-04. This one week add change was caused by Gnome schedule conflicts. The dates related in all detailed schedules (for devel, releng and trans) are obsolete, and needs to be modified accordingly.

Bottom line, it perfectly fits with 2012-09-06 test day by adding one week to 09-04. Sorry for this change, but could you please change l10n test day to 2012-09-06?

still no detailed page for both test days. I'm wondering who is responsible for that?

Hi Tagoh,

I was working on that. Pages are updating with content. Please check.

Great. thanks!
I'll update the test case as needed.

The schedule was now slipped a week. [[BR]]
Will the test days follow?

So far we've never slipped the entire test day schedule along with a release slip, no. If your event is particularly tied to the schedule, though, let me know, and we'll try and work something out.

Without live image, we are unable to have L10N test :-([[BR]]

as Noriko said, Live boot-able image, it may not be possible to test (may installer not work, but desktop should be) with image. I am watching ticket about it (https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/941) and please allow us to skip till iso not available.

We can build a live image for the test day, even if there aren't Alpha images available. That shouldn't be a problem.

during i18n team meeting, it is found that it will better for testing if we skip i18n testing for few weeks (to Sep 18 - Tuesday). Also it was overlapping with OpenStack Test day.
Translation test day we want to continue on current schedule if live iso available.

as 'Software Translation Deadline' is now 2012-09-25 and live installer, which last tested, not able to logout, which is required to switch language. with delay we can get more translations (It will also close to Software translation deadline), get installer working (to test), and update Test Cases with latest build. Can we change it to 2012-09-20?

I think GNOME should provide you option to log out if you switch the language. If it doesn't, it's a bug. But always you can run gnome-session-quit command.

I have rescheduled the test day to 2012-09-20 as per your request.
The test day page is now here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2012-09-20_i18n/l10n

Hmm, I read it aalam was requesting like this:

  • 2012-09-04 (i18n) -> 2012-09-18
  • 2012-09-06 (l10n) -> 2012-09-20

Am I misreading?

it is feature in gnome-shell with Single user, no logout button.

actually there were two test days i18n and l10n. i18n already moved to 2012-09-18 (Tuesday) and Translation day need to move on 2012-09-20.

yes, it is fine. Thanks for fixing.

BTW due to the another slip on release schedule, i18n test day and alpha release happens at the same day so far. it may not works for people who lives around Asia because it's a bit earlier until ISOs is available?

hopefully the last RC is stable enough and same to what alpha is?

As per the discussion from today's i18n meeting, we want to request to create a custom Live image with packages from updates-testing since a lot of GNOME packages are waiting on it and it's tightly related to our new feature, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/GNOMEIBusIntegration and Indic improvements with new pango and harfbuzz.

Is it possible to have one by coming i18n test day on Tuesday?

RC3 build is there, also we can ask in https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5306 ticket for that.

http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/ should use updates-testing. Can you please try them out whether they are sufficient for you?

for example, imsettings has been pushed to testing 29th August. that may explains nightly build doesn't refer updates-testing?

Looking at the kickstart you seem to be right, updates-testing is not used.

So I guess we need to wait for the response from rel-eng. I'm not quite sure if we can have one in a timely manner. it's pretty bad timing for composing custom since they would be busy for alpha...

I believe we can create a compose for you.

Tim, you have been creating composes recently, could you create one using updates-testing for i18n test day?

If he doesn't do it today, I'll try to create one on Monday.

Yeah, I can do that. Can I get some more details on what you're looking for? I assume a livecd but I'm not as sure of the package set (specific things or just all of updates-testing), spin or arch(s) that are desired.

Thanks. well, we particularly want to see the latest GNOME packages, ibus* and imsettings in Live. this is necessary for our feature testing for https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/GNOMEIBusIntegration and harfbuzz integration to pango which improves a lot for Indic.

I guess x86_64 would be sufficient for this testing.

I just thought picking up from updates-testing may be easy because it would be the kind of the mega-updates. I leave it to you. if Live image satisfies those packages updated, I'm fine.

TIA,

Ok, I now like to confirm that our event of l10n test (not i18n test) is tied to the schedule.
* L10N test day should now be on 27-Sep to fit current software deadline of 02-Oct.

For future release, test day request tickets for l10n test and i18n test are created separately. Ani and her team of FLTG can help these both events.

I built an x86_64 desktop livecd with updates testing:

Autologin doesn't seem to be working but other than that it boots and runs. If you get a chance, could you check out that livecd and let me know if that'll be enough for the purposes of the test day? If so, I'll build an i686 livecd with updates-testing and push to the same location.
