#23 F12 Power Management test day
Closed: Fixed None Opened 14 years ago by jlaska.

This ticket is intended to coordinate setup activities for the upcoming Fedora 12 Power management test day. The guidelines for hosting a successful test day are available at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_test_day_SOP.

Perhaps a first step is identifying who will be involved ... then assigning setup tasks?

pknirsch: A question came up from Cai and Kexin about needing a newer powertop package (powertop-1.11-4). Right now I only see powertop-1.11-3.fc12 (see http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=4369). Do you know who can help with this?

I've opened a bugzilla for an issue that Kexin discovered and which i've investigated and fixed on Tuesday.

The bugzilla is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=528945

The Fedora maintainer of powertop is ajax. If you'd like to i can easily ping him.

Thanks & regards, Phil

The test day wiki page (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-10-22) is looking great folks. One suggestion I might offer is around the test cases created.

  1. '''template''' - It's recommended to use the existing wiki template to provide a common look'n'feel for the test cases. For guidance, see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Template:QA/Test_Case
  2. '''namespace''' - I might also suggest renaming the test cases to match existing wiki test names. The current recommended scheme is ''QA:Testcase Power Management _____''. For example, you might rename ''Test_Day:2009-10-22/Testcase:personal'' to ''QA:Testcase_Power_Management_personal''. For additional examples, see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Power_Management_Test_Cases.

When I tried to install the testday rpm with yum using:

yum --nogpgcheck localinstall testday-pm-0.4-1.fc12.YOURARCH.rpm

it failed because the kernel debug info packages weren't installed, at least with the usb live image I tried. debuginfo-install did work, but the several hundred MB download will be an issue with USB live images without large persistant storage. I also ran into a problem where I didn't have enough space trying to install the packages despite making the persistant storage take the entire 2GB stick.

Thank you for your remarks. :-)

  1. '''template'''

This is done.

Many of the tests were already used on previous PM testday:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days/2009-04-02

Now we have "new versions" of the tests. And I don't like breaking the previous testday site. Therefore it is impossible to rename it exactly as you offered.

What about (1): QA:Testcase_Power_Management_personal2
[[BR]]
Or (2): QA:Testcase_Power_Management_20091022_personal

(I would prefer the second option.)

What do you think about it? Or do you have some better idea?

Thanks, Jan.

Let's fix the originals. I will update the old Power Management test day to point to the older versions of the wiki test cases. I'd prefer keeping 1 set of test cases and rely on mediawiki versioning. If no objections, I'll update the old test day wiki (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days/2009-04-02) to point to the old test cases. This way you can update the cases without ''changing history.''

Sound good?

Sounds perfect. ;-) Thanks, I will update it as soon as possible.

Great, I've updated the older test day wiki to point to the original test cases. You should be free to merge changes into those cases now without disturbing the old versions. See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:Power_management_2009-04-02#Test.

Btw ... once you have completed the migration of content, you can mark the wiki pages for deletion using the ''{{delete}}'' template (see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Template:Delete)

jlaska: All tests were updated. Old pages are marked with {{delete}}. Thank you for the links in the previous PM testday. :-)

I updated https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-10-22#Prerequisite to give more information about this: We prefer testing on installed system to Live{CD,USB}. Actually, results from installed systems are the most important for us. kernel-debuginfo package is needed because of "scomes" test. If people want to run the tests on Live system, they have to have enough free space.

Thanks everyone for a great test event. Phil Knirsch took time to summarize the testing and provided the information at https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2009-October/msg00789.html

As always, I welcome thoughts/ideas on how to improve future fedora test events. PowerManagement definitely set the bar high by providing automated test cases!
