#164 Multi-spin DVD review

Can QA review the proposed multi-spin DVD and offer it's opinion (pref thumbs up/thumbs down)

We perhaps might want to add a test case that involves booting into all the live environments and perform live install of each of the available environments other than adding perhaps those two test cases is there something preventing us from giving a thumbs up on this?

Personally speaking I'm totally fine with this, I think it's a great idea and the additional QA burden, as it's currently planned to be implemented, would be minimal.

Johann, I'm not sure we really need that; as it's currently designed the image is essentially a thin bootloader wrapper around the existing spin ISOs. It just takes the existing live spins and wraps them in a multi-boot loader; once they've been loaded they're identical to their separate incarnations and really ought to behave exactly the same. I don't think it'd really be needed to test that each separate one would install. We could probably just check that all of them boot, and do a quick install check on one of them, and that ought to suffice. That's probably an hour's work at most.

I would prefer that we tested booting into the four separate images and perform install of each of them to be on the safe side before spending money on pressing this but I agree that there should not be any need for additional testing other than that.

I also think this is an excellent work and a step in the right direction for the project in whole.

I agree we should test booting and installing, although I don't think we should hit any problems. The previous prototype has been tested by at least 3 different ambassadors.

Perhaps we also need some real world testing, this means not virtualized. I am still investigating syslinux as alternative to grub.

I agree with the comments made so far with regards to what tests to run. At a minimum, I'd like to see a wiki test matrix like ...

}}}

I'd also like to see a test that validates the artwork used in the multi-spin grub/syslinux menu. We can word the boot test such that it includes the artwork, or create a different test entirely.

Other desktop and spin specific tests will be handled by the existing [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test]

I drafted a quick'n'dirty wiki page to record test results against the Multi-Boot DVD image. This page is by no means final, but it is intended to ensure we can post some test results against a clear set of tests.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_15_Final_Multi_Boot_DVD

The tests I proposed are not final, some a re-used from existing plans, and one doesn't yet exist. I did my best to cover things that aren't explicitly tested elsewhere, or are unique about the Multi-Boot DVD spin. Suggestions welcome!

Completed, closing ticket.
