People often open Contacts to add new contacts. Adding a new contact in 25 seconds is not unrealistic, especially if you just want to provide a name and email. And when the app crashes on you afterwards in the middle of some other operation, that a pretty poor experience.

But the fact that it only seems to happen on VMs give me some pause.

I wonder if it's not "VM vs. real" but rather the problem happens during some kind of initialization phase that's faster on real HW than VM (generally speaking?) i.e. the "25 seconds" is dependent on system speed? Maybe if you manage to create a contact really fast it'll still happen on real HW...

I can reproduce this, but I waver a bit on blocker status. Is it really 'basic' functionality to create a contact very quickly right after the app starts? I can only do it by calling the contact 'test' and email 'test@test', really. If I was creating an actual contact with a real name and email address and phone number I doubt I'd ever manage to do it in time to trigger this.

Well, you don't have to type it. You might want to copy+paste the contact name and email from some document and click Done, and in that case it's very realistic to do it in half a minute.
