We'll have to figure out the scope of this. If this affects just certain cards, then probably FinalBlocker -1, because we have very limited possibilities to fix problems for nvidia. If it affects all nvidia cards, well...

FinalBlocker -1

from what I have seen with my Nvidia card -> the installation starts effortless in the normal mode, so it is possible that this will not be seen by most of the Nvidia users. And if so, the text installation mode still works pretty well with Netinst.

Please note that this is very likely not specific to netinst. At least KDE Live will be affected as well. Workstation Live might or might not, because it should use Wayland even with nomodeset.

@lruzicka If you have time, you can test other media types on your system and update the bug report to say which are affected.

FinalBlocker -1

Without more information on what cards are affected, it's hard to say if it should be a blocker.

FinalFE +1

It doesn't seem that all nvidia cards are affected, and so I don't think it makes much sense to block on this.

I'm actually more inclined to blocker +1 on this one, since from recent feedback on the bug it looks like the affected case we know about is exactly the kind of case where we need this to work: the user's card does not work with the native driver either. Still a close call, though.

I don't have a strong opinion here. I'm just lukewarm to blocking on nvidia-related stuff :)

AGREED AcceptedFinalBlocker

Discussed during the 2022-04-19 blocker review meeting: [0]

The decision to classify this bug as an "AcceptedBlocker (Final)" was made as it violates the following criterion:

"The generic video driver option...must function as intended...there must be no bugs that clearly prevent the installer or desktop from being reached in this configuration on...wide classes of hardware", affecting all cases where the UEFI simpledrm driver may kick in.
