@riecatnor has suggested a couple of times to me that at NEST 2021 we do some sort of Fedora Podcast related talk. Some Ideas are: - A live interview session, either with anyone, or a specific list of folks - A booth style setup where people can join and ask questions - Podcast coverage of the conference, perhaps where we have people talk to the recording about their experience at NEST.
Everyone, and specifically @riecatnor What do you think of this?
Hey @computerkid - thanks for opening this ticket. I think these ideas are a great start. I have some potential direction as well based on conversations I have been having around Nest and with other teams. Let me know your thoughts :)
Idea 1 We are expecting quite a few newcomers at this years Nest. At each virtual event we have held, when we polled the audience we found that about half were total newcomers. Because of this I think it would be a great time to talk about the refreshed podcast team, what you have been up to, and how others can get involved. I know you are looking for more team members :) Additionally, once we have the video up on YouTube, you can point folks to that later on when they want to learn about getting involved. I think this would be well suited to a 25 minute session.
Idea 2 The D&I team is currently working on revamping Fedora Women's Day to Fedora Week of Diversity. The main focus of the event will be sharing various types of content over the period of a week (in late September most likely). We want to tell stories from and about our community. What if the podcast & d&i teams paired up to hold a session to capture a/v content? I think this would be well suited for one or two hour session.
Some ideas of prompts: - How did you get involved in Fedora? - Do you have a Fedora mentor? If so, what is the most valuable thing they taught you? - What is your favorite memory from a Fedora event?
And then we could ask them with to read a script in their native language and also English. We have done this in the past, actually, we have that content still and it hasn't been edited. The script we used in the past was as follows:
Hi, my name is _, I am from , I am __, and I speak _____.
(Ex: Hi, my name is Marie, I am from the United States, I am a woman, and I speak English.)
We are from different countries, We speak different languages, We are of different cultures, But Fedora unites us with Open Source. WE ARE FEDORA!
I think that this is an awesome idea! Kind of a talk about what the Fedora Podcast is, maybe we could play an episode, talk about our inspiration, ask for feedback, etc. Shall I get this submitted to the NEST pagure?
I don't think I understand exactly what you mean. Is the idea here that I and possibly Eduard would interview the D&I team as a talk, that doubles as a Podcast, or just the interview part?
I would also be happy to edit whatever was previously recorded for this. It seems I am doing all the a/v things already
Excerpt from Riecatnor on telegram DM
So for the Nest/D&I team thing: the idea is to host the session for anyone to come and answer some questions about their fedora experience. You as our podcast person and experienced host could ask questions and hang out as people come by. we would then take that content and edit it. the content would be published during fedora week of diversity
I think this could be good. Me, possibly Eduard, and one other person from the D&I team could act as hosts, and have an open floor. People could walk up, talk about their adventures in Fedora, and what Fedora means to them.
I'm up to it. Both ideas are great.
Idea 1 Will this be like a talk about the Podcast team? I think we can prepare stuff to talk about the history of the podcast and how @computerkid kicked off the season 2 out of the infraworld.
Idea 2 When flock was a thing, I take the advantage of being in the same place and did several intervews. @riecatnor can we have a dedicated "podcast room" intended to let people enter and talk about fedora stuff, and possibly to record the script.
New idea I think we can revamp (since that's the new thing in Fedora) the Audio Creation SIG, or work in a SIG with people that know and can work on audio production and edition, maybe help with the Fedora JAM lab? I don't know, ad podcasters, I think we are isolated from other audio creators on the community, this could be a great chance to network with interested people
In response to @x3mboy -
Idea 1, yup. It would be awesome if you could gather up information about the podcast history, as that's something I know less about. I could try and gather info about the current standings of the podcast.
Idea 2,
New idea Do we have any idea if people interested in that will attend NEST? My concern is nothing will happen. However, I'd love to work on this idea.
Eduard or I need to go ahead and submit idea 1 and 2 to the pagure for NEST.
@x3mboy I think making a podcast room is doable. I would make set up the room so @computerkid, you, me, and a D&I team member are moderators, and to record. If we meet someone during the conference who would like to be a part, we can use the room to do the interviews. I want to add a session in the schedule(using the same room if I can make it work in Hopin) as well to ensure we get at least a handful of recordings/interviews done.
We can move any further discussion about "idea one" to #42
Hi folks, I have been working with some folks on organizing the Fedora Week of Diversity related session, we opened a ticket here: https://pagure.io/flock/issue/321
Please add your availability to that ticket so we can schedule the session efficiently. Thanks!
