#27 more on air contributers
Closed a year ago by itguyeric. Opened 3 years ago by computerkid.

Currently there are only 2 people intended to consistently go out in the recordings, me and @x3mboy . I think it would be very beneficial to the podcast if we had a 3rd or maybe even 4th person who could step in and help record. That gives us the freedom to miss an episode or two with minimal consequences, or even step back completely if life requires it. If people have thoughts, or suggestions on this, I want to hear them. Please post them below!

I'm also going to need to make a post for the blog about this.

I have reached out to @computerkid about helping out. I can be a third host. Once I know my schedule I can work around everyone else for good recording times. I am pretty flexible when it involves my non-work schedule, or medical appointments for my wife and myself.

What does your audio setup look like? Do you have a microphone, or atleast a headset? I think you have some previous experience podcasting, would you mind confirming that?

I don't have anything that would be considered studio grade. I have a Yeti Mic, and a Logitech G USB headset, when I am not using my cheaper webcam mic, because I share my equipment with my wife. I podcasted for about 2 years, but that was five years ago, and my equipment now is better than it was a the time.

That's totally fine

Cool! The best/only good way to figure out how you'll fit with the podcast is to try it! There are a couple ways we could try this

  • Do a news episode with Me and/or Eduard, and just discuss it with you.
  • Do an interview episode of the same style, but I am less interested with this, because I am focus on the interviewee during those, and I would want to be listening to you.
  • Or we could do a specific segment with you, e.i. if there's a field of fedora you are interested in, we could do a shorter discussion with you about it. You wouldn't need to be an expert or anything, it wouldn't be a full interview.

What do you think?

Any of those choices would work. I think the strongest one would be the news episode however, because that is actively happening at the moment when we are recording. As I stated in my first message I do not know my work schedule yet. That Should be made official this week as I return to work, and if it ends up being to much of a conflict, I wouldn't want to hold anything back.

My offer was a general one. I can be whatever you all need: an occasional guest, a frequent co-host, whatever you need.

I think what we need most right now is a co-host to come on not all the time, but sometimes. The issue is that we don't have a set schedule. It's more of a 'hey, are you free tonight?' What times are you available usually?

That sounds good to me.

With some notice, I can be available most anytime. However, the one variable to that is its easier for me to record on nights where my kids are with their mom (which floats during the week and every other weekend).

Awesome. Where's the best place to reach you? Matrix I guess?

Could you join #fedora-podcast:matrix.org please?

So, how would you all feel about setting a regular, recurring recording schedule? Better to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it you know?

It would definitely help me to have a set schedule.

I think Eric's idea is a great way to go. Having a regular schedule makes it easier for everyone to participate since its reliable and consistent. Interviews might require adjustment here and there but I think a set schedule for recording is best for optimal production.

I can say for certain that when DLN had open ended recordings for some shows it was an issue but when the shows because regular recording structured it made it much much better.

I had tried this before, and due to some unfortunate issues and a bunch of bad luck it didn't work out, but I am in favor of trying again. Let's open a new issue to discuss this, as it's a little off topic: #36 .

Hey @computerkid - we've chatted on Riot/Element - I would also be interested on helping as On Air contributers

How's your audio set up?

I have a Logitech Gaming Headset; Logitech Webcam C270 I guess; Trust Microphone and sound boxes from Logitech.

Any one interesting right now? Now is a good time to get involved if so. I know @renegadext is going to be joining us, but anyone else who wants to help would be welcome.

I'm always happy to help out.

We'll start a clean thread on this topic once we establish a recording schedule.
