#12 Youtube Publishing
Closed a year ago by itguyeric. Opened 3 years ago by computerkid.

@x3mboy do we want to publish to Youtube? If we did it would most likely remain an audio podcast, and we could have just some artwork, and a audio visualizer. Another thing is, would we monetize it? If so, where should the money go?

Not for the moment. I thought about it before but my conclusion was that it needs to happen in a different channel than the official one of the project, like creating a Marketing channel, but for that we need someone to create it and give us access.

It's not a bad idea, but it needs some man power.

I can help with the technical aspects. For example, I have a script to create video versions of our audio only podcasts on DLN whenever y'all decide to go into this further.

Thanks for the offer! I will make sure we get back to you once we get to this, which I hope will be soon. IMHO youtube, while not a major platform for a podcast, is still worth having.

Who would that someone need to be?

I just sent an email to the Fedora Social Media team to help with the channel creation.

@x3mboy could you please follow up on this? Have they responded?

The team didn't agreed, but after some discussion we ended up preferring to use a playlist in the channel.

The next step should be what will we use as:

  • Image and or animation while the audio runs
  • A Thumbnail template

I think at @michaeltunnell had a script? Could you give your thoughts Michael?

I have a script I wrote for creating videos with waveforms based on the audio provided to the script. This uses ffmpeg to generate the videos.

Here are some examples of videos generated with this script: Hardware Addicts, Sudo Show, DLN Xtend

It would be interesting if we could somehow make the waveform appear to be coming off the antenna

I would need the image to be in 1920 x 1080 format.

IDK how to re-render them

well if the assets can be sent to me then I can make it work if they are all SVG though I assume the new logo for Fedora would need to be added to the assets prior though.

As for the request to make the waveform look like it is coming from the antenna . . . yea, I think I can do that. :sunglasses:

I asked for new art with the logo, no one responded yet

@michaeltunnell @computerkid Can we take this discussion again? I would love to have the season 3 also on YouTube

I'm still on board. I think the biggest roadblock is putting together a
script. Any progress @michaeltunnell ?

I can have this ready fairly quickly as I will use the one I made for DLN as a basis for it. When is it needed by for season 3? I am curious only to know if there is a significant amount of lead time or not.

I'm planning starting to record the last week of January to start publishing on February.

Again I'd love to get a Youtube script whenever you can create one @michaeltunnell .
BTW I am curious, would we want to post on the Fedora Youtube, or create a Fedora Podcast Youtube? Perhaps for people who want to subscribe, but only for the podcast, and vice versa for people who don't care about the podcast but like the talks and meetings on the main channel?

I think that we should have a Fedora Podcast YT channel. I will ask how to have this done.

I feel that moving the Fedora Podcast into its own channel would rob us of the nearly 5,000 potential viewers (the current subscriber count for the Fedora YouTube channel). We went through a similar discussion for RHEL Presents and eventually decided landing it on the RHEL YouTube was the best option.
