#25 Need support organizing first Fedora Week of Diversity
Closed 2 months ago by bcotton. Opened 2 months ago by riecatnor.

The D&I team is working on transitioning Fedora Women's Day to Fedora Week of Diversity. We have done a couple planning sessions and have a very good idea of the direction we want to go. The general idea is to capitalize on some of our existing sub-projects for the new FWD, such as Happiness Packets, Contributor Stories, etc. Some need a little love to get back up and running, mostly we need a ton of content gathering/coordination, making sure editing & design are in the mix, and publishing/promotion.

In the past we have celebrated Fedora Women's Day in September, it would be great to do it then (but cool if it is towards the end of the month :D). Side note: we discussed gathering content at Nest in August during a session or otherwise to catch a lot of folks in one place.

To pull this off well we need to coordinate many pieces. It would be lovely to have a support person from the pgm team to assist in making sure things stay on track. Please let me know if more info is needed to figure out if this is something the pgm team can help out with.

I'll see who's interested and get someone assigned next week. In the meantime, can you please provide the below?

  • Start date: Do you need help now or are you planning ahead? Is there a "too late" date?
  • Length of support: “indefinitely” is an option here, too
  • Estimated weekly work: how much time does the assigned team member need to plan on?
  • Meeting times: when do you meet
  • Communication channels: where do you do asynchronous and synchronous communication
  • Planning location: where can we see what you’re doing now? For example, a Pagure repo or a Taiga board
  • Documentation: If you have documentation, where is it?

Hi! Apologies for the template oversight :)

Start date: Do you need help now or are you planning ahead? Is there a "too late" date?
- We need help now. Since we are looking at doing activities for this in August/at Nest, I would hope to get someone on board in advance of that to help out.

Length of support: “indefinitely” is an option here, too
- The event will be in Sept/Oct, so from now until then.

Estimated weekly work: how much time does the assigned team member need to plan on?
- Unclear at this time, my guess is 1-3 hours depending on the week. Because of the nature of events, I am sure we will also have a hustle period near the end where we put in extra hours to get everything taken care of. The week of Nest will take a couple extra hours as well.

Meeting times: when do you meet
- The D&I team meets every 2 weeks, the next meeting is June 24th. I think we will need to set up some side working sessions besides the regular team meeting to achieve this. https://calendar.fedoraproject.org/diversity-team/2021/6/21/#m9870

Communication channels: where do you do asynchronous and synchronous communication
- #fedora-diversity on IRC/matrix/telegram

Planning location: where can we see what you’re doing now? For example, a Pagure repo or a Taiga board
- These are the planning pieces we have so far.

Documentation: If you have documentation, where is it?
- This is documentation on Fedora Women's Day, but I believe some of it will be transferable to Fedora Week of Diversity. This documentation is also based on IRL events.

There is also a whenisgood to coordinate a meeting for this in the next couple weeks. If you are interested, please provide your availability by Friday June 18th.
