I think I can see what this is meant to do. Dunno if we really
need to keep it, but hey, at least this should make it possible
to decide.

I saw this was just documented as "???", so I took a look, and I'm pretty sure I figured out what this is meant to do. I think it should even still work, though I didn't try it.
