The KDE SIG would to collaborate with the Mobility SIG to produce a new Fedora Mobile Edition based on Plasma mobile.
Plasma mobile is under heavy development, and the KDE SIG is actively working to get it all packaged.
So this ticket is mostly about what level of interest there is in working together to make a Fedora Mobile edition. Any help and feedback you have would be greatly appreciated.
For reference, here's the kde-sig ticket tracking the topic as well, https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/SIG/issue/41
we would like to do it.
I'd defintely be in favor of helping produce a plasma moble version...
Unfortunately, right now out main target has been pinephone, but it's still not really upstream enough to make fedora images directly for. We do have a remix with a 3rd party kernel.
So, I'd say:
Then once enough is upstream to start doing fedora spins we can do one for it as well...
As I build nightly test-images for Phosh/Gnome daily, I'd love to set same up for new Plasma-mobile images. Just tell us what we need to push into such images - on #fedora-mobility or here.
Here is a list of the current package situation:
alligator ok angelfish copr audiotube - calindori copr daykountdown - kalk copr kasts - kclock ok krecorder ok kweather ok mtp-server - mycroft-plasmoid-mobile - plasma-camera - plasma-dialer - plasma-mobile-sounds - plasma-phone-components copr plasma-phone-settings - plasma-phonebook - plasma-settings copr plasmatube - qmlkonsole ok qrca - spacebar - vakzination -
ok = in fedora repo | copr = in (some) copr repo | - = not packaged for Fedora yet

For those that don't want to use Google Docs, this is the status as of right now:
Wow. thanks for the detailed chart!
@rdieter I believe we have done all we can, that you asked for. See @justinz nice chart above. There is no more packages for plamo to package - but we don't have any proven packagers that can take this further into Fedora, and get it review'd - I hope the KDE SIG will grab it all from here.
I believe @kevin, @rdieter, and myself are provenpackagers and package sponsors.
There is a new KDE build now here: https://gitlab.com/fedora/sigs/mobility/sdm845/op6
Maybe we can also add https://gitlab.com/fedora/sigs/mobility to the README. I can't open a PR on pagure for some reason.

We want to be consistent with other Editions so the default DE on Fedora Mobile should be GNOME with WIP changes by Jonas Dreßler or with Phosh/Phoc.
Consistent with a non-existing GNOME (WIP-version) ? I Don't think so...
There is no reason that we have to use a non-existent GNOME version or Phosh because Workstation uses GNOME.
There are specific reasons for why Workstation uses GNOME that doesn't apply here.
That said, @thunderbirdtr has been away for a while and @justinz helped get us over the finish line on getting the packages in place.
I talked to @kevin about this at Flock and I'm hoping I can put aside some time to leverage my experience maintaining Fedora kernels for Fedora Mobility.
Agreed.
Right.
But... we currently have a Phosh image, many people in the mobility sig use it and went to a lot of work to get everything packaged.
I have 0 problem with a kde/kf5/plasma version, I think thats great. I disagree with just making a new kde/kf5/plasma image and making it default and dropping the Phosh image that many people have expended a bunch of effort on.

Yeah, it would be nice to move remixes to a remix kernel instead of using the megi kernel as is. That could help us figure out what needs upstreaming for mainline too. :) That would all be awsome, IMHO.

I am not proposing dropping the Phosh image at all. And plenty of folks have expended a lot of effort bringing in the Plasma Mobile stack into Fedora too.
