#63 Generic Fedora slogan for fedoraproject.org front page

Created 7 years ago by mchua
Modified 3 years ago

Select (via a selection process similar to release slogans) a slogan for the front page of fedoraproject.org - something that will last across multiple (hopefully indefinitely many) releases.

See https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2009-September/msg00124.html for context.

I'm wondering whether we should think about placing the slogan
prominently on the get-fedora page (get.fedoraproject.org) and having
something more general on the front page itself, in the space
currently occupied by the filler "Free your computer" in the mockups.
Any thoughts on this?

I am fine with this except we need that replacement, more general slogan
now for this to happen for F12. If it can't, let's hold off on this until F13.

If this is to happen for F14, it needs to happen early on.

I need to talk to Mo and the Design team about the main fp.o page from the perspective of the Board anyway, so it makes sense for me to hold this ticket assignment.

I'll update this biweekly. Today's update is that the Design Team meeting broached the subject of the main www.fp.o update (logs [http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-design/2010-06-15/fedora-design.2010-06-15-19.08.log.html#l-26 here]). First they're going to do a retrospective on get.fp.o. Although that may include some tuning, it shouldn't get in the way of getting www.fp.o built for F14. We haven't discussed the generic slogan yet but we will.

Next update due on 2010-06-29.

This will be taken care of as part of the www.fp.o mockup tweaking:

We have two equally reasonable choices IMHO:

  • Do away with a release-specific slogan and just adopt one for use on the website for the foreseeable future;
  • Keep doing a release-specific slogan, and embed it in the web banner each release using the Power of Inkscape.

I would encourage the Marketing team to take up that decision after discussing it with Design, and then feed the results into the tweaking of the www.fp.o mockup.
