#268 Fedora 27 - one page release notes - duplicates of the Fedora Magazine "What's new"?
Closed: Completed 4 years ago Opened 4 years ago by mailga.

My concern is that the "one page release notes" is exactly the wiki version of the "what's new" magazine article.

Giving a glance to the (e.g.) magazine article for F26 https://fedoramagazine.org/whats-new-fedora-26-workstation/ and to the "one page release notes" done for F13 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_one_page_release_notes, it seems to me it's almost the same thing.

Do we have to keep this task, maybe improving it in order to differentiate from the magazine page? Are we able to give an added value to the task?

Thanks.

Gabri

Can you drive me in what are you thinking about this?

The "What's New in Workstation" article is a Magazine initiative, the "One page Release Notes" should be a brief of the complete release notes that should contain not only workstation but the whole release new material, maybe they could take part of the one page release note, or maybe they just want to do a specific article about Workstation, because the Release announcement could be more general to the project.

Hey I can give you a bit of a historical perspective on this - one page release notes came out of a desire of having an easily-printed / print-formatted version of the release notes that we could have for ambassadors to use at show booths when people ask what is new in Fedora.

I don't know if ambassadors use them anymore. Certainly they could just print out the fedora magazine article, i dont know how those format for print (probably fine)

Hi @mailga , We what to know if the "What's New in Workstation" is enough to cover the role of the one page release notes??, maybe we don't need duplicate efforts for this task

Sorry for being away so much time.

Well what @x3mboy describes is quite fair, but in the other hand we have several releases and shipping date for each of them (not always, but...).
I don't know if we're still able to gather things in the same page unless it is not a "rolling" page.

@duffy right. In the past we had only one Fedora DVD and the installer allowed us to choose which kind OS we'd liked to install along with the software we wanted. This made easier the editing of the one page release notes. Nowadays we should call it the "X pages release notes...." and as you correctly said it's better read/print the related magazine article (related to the flavor choosen).

Thanks.

Gabri

I think we can close this

I have been asked to vote for this issue on release notes

Every new release gives a positive vibes and creates regular interest for everyone As I am new to fedora open source community so, when i visited to this release page notes it was quite helpful for me to know more about fedora workstation. The advantage of this page is it gives you a summary about new release so everyone can easily differentiate with their existing operating system in better way and it is very helpful for techexperts, reporters and testers to work on new features. So I am ok if it is close but we can come up with another option for release page.

I will close this, if the one page notes becomes relevant again always we can open another discussion referencing this ticket
