#263 Fedora events page for the general public
Closed: Insufficient data 2 years ago by x3mboy. Opened 6 years ago by bt0dotninja.

In the LATAM ambassadors meeting of today[1] with the discussion about organizing "release parties" came the idea of one dedicated page for fedora events that will be suitable for the general public and not for internal control(a quick google search give me only this kind of pages), that means easy to cite (something like events.fp.o) and share in social networks.

from the point of view of Marketing how viable this idea?

I like this idea a lot.

Could we start with something simpler? Why don't we have all events land in this fedocal: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/Events/

We can then display that iCAL feed on various sites. As we get more events and people start to use it we can organically discover what kind of filtering, etc. we need. The event meetings on the calendar are shareable via social media.

I'd like to see us get the events surfaced without blocking on a tool.

+1

Sorry, I pass this ticket on the meeting because it's not tagged as meeting. I'm +1, as we discuss also in the FAD Latam, and as @bex comment, we should put it in the calendar, and the idea at that time was to publish a monthly article in the magazine about the Fedora Events Worldwide.

We event put the step into our new Event Guidelines.

I'm +1 to this, and I will tag this ticket as meeting to discuss it in the next meeting.

Today I wrote to the ambassadors mailing list requesting feed the event's calendar. I will update the ticket when we have some responses.

as discussed in the 02/13/2018 meeting, it's important generate material to explain the process of add a event in Fedora Calendar.

We have to main proposals: a Community blog entry and one video tutorial.

I wil review carefully the steps and update this ticket

We discuss this again, and I will be working on this until Friday and we will try to put some pressure on people to use fedocal to create the events

I suggest we draft a set of guidelines for how to create the event and what should be in it. It is easier to get people to do things if we tell them how. Then let's advocate to get this added to the various regional and mindshare event guides.

I wrote a post in the CommBlog to this issue. After it get published, next task will be to communicate properly in Ambys' ML and any list that could be interested (Mindshare, magazine???)

Can we get the article summarized to a documentation page that we can point people too? This way we can add a step in the Mindshare process for an event to get created.

I'm not sure to understand your point @bex

Should we point people to a specific part of the documentation which what content?

Also, to let you know, I've entered in an EMEA Amby's meeting and they were glad about this idea. Maybe NA needs to be reached. For APAC I think is a little harder. I know LATAM is already using the fedocal.

I have no access to gmail at work, but I will try to send the email in my previous comment this weekend.
