#5 Set up an iPXE server in Fedora

  • Describe what iPXE is, what it's used for (network booting), and why it's useful (installing Fedora)
  • Describe process for setting up server to boot arbitrary clients
  • Assume small home/office LAN (class C, 192.168.1.0/24)

Basic idea

  • Introduction: iPXE stands as a powerful tool, offering the capability to boot computers over a network, eliminating the need for physical installation media. This is particularly advantageous in scenarios where physical installation media may be unavailable or inconvenient to use. Additionally, iPXE can be utilized for various network-based tasks such as diskless booting, firmware updates, and diagnostics. [...]
  • Setting Up a fedora server for Network Booting:
    • dhcpd
    • TFPT
    • configure iPXE / default.ipxe and so on
  • Test boot from a client / maybe Virtual machine
