Article Summary: We would like to announce the Display-next/HDR hackfest organized by Red Hat in Brno, gathering developers from various projects and companies with the goal of discussing the planning and development of the technical infrastructure for various features for display-next technologies, specifically those that need GNOME Shell or similar compositors or window managers to work in tandem with the GPU stack. One of the main examples of this is HDR support.
More info in Hackfests/ShellDisplayNext2023 - GNOME Wiki!.
Article Description: We already have a draft written by Niels de Graef, Sebastian Wick and myself. First section will be announcement of the hackfest and logistics, second section briefly explaining HDR in Linux, third section explaining why HDR and this hackfest is important for the Linux ecosystem and for Fedora/RHEL.
FWIW it was suggested by Justin Flory to write an article here. It would be great to publish it ASAP so that this article can be the official announcement of the hackfest.

@csoriano If you have a suggestion or image that can be used for a feature image, please let us know. It has to be non-copyright and landscape orientation. Feel free to drop it as an attachment here if you like.
@glb Sounds like your week is full. I'll monitor and edit this.
Thanks. Spoke with various people on the team, and we've chosen the one below. It's by Jakub Steiner, and free license with no copyright. I think it would be great to give him attribution tho.

@csoriano Have you had an opportunity to add your article to WordPress yet? Go to that link and select the + New in the header then Post in the next menu to get started.
Let us know with a comment here, when you have it ready for us to review/edit.
I think we can include the graphics in the feature image.
I just created a draft for it, and it's ready for review. It's here https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=37777&preview=true&preview_id=37777 (not sure if that's accessible for you).
I will appreciate feedback, specially I would appreciate if an English native speaker can take a look and provide some corrections/suggestions. None of us are native English speakers :-)

That's exactly what we need.
That's our job :-) I'll review/edit it and give you a chance to read it over if anything needs changing.
I don't find Jakub Steiner in the list of authors/users for Word Press (WP) so making all three of you authors that show up at the top of the article can't happen. If Jakub wants to log into WP we can do that, but since you have acknowledged them in the article and their names appear on their contributions, we can move on with the article as it stands, if that is all right with you.
Thanks, appreciate that. Yeah, in the last round of modifications I did today for the article I thought of adding their names in the article itself as part of the headers for greater visibility. So I'm happy as it stands now.
I did some editing on the article but have yet to do the feature image. Review it, if you would.
The only thing I would suggest you consider (really Sebastian) is the "sudden" appearance of the "SDR" abbreviation. I looked that up and assume it stands for "Standard Dynamic Range (SDR)". It is common to use the full name the first time it is mentioned, with the initials in parentheses, as I did above, and then use the initials there after. It might also be good to include a link to a definition for the uninitiated (like me). If you think most interested readers will understand, you can ignore me.
Great idea, I added you suggestion to the draft.
I also did another full review. I changed wording on one sentence, "[..]Yeah, this all sounds more complex than we could imagine,[..]". I changed the "we" to "someone", since it sounded as if our team wouldn't know it would be complex, but we definitely knew :-). Feel free to edit it for a better wording.
Your edits look good too, thanks for that. I consider it ready for publishing.
@csoriano I've created a feature image using Jakub's graphics. I believe the following is a public viewable link to it. If this meets your approval I will schedule this for publication this Friday (3 Feb)
