#135 Article about Fedora Silverblue/Kinoite/IoT 36 upgrade issue
Closed: scheduled 2 years ago by siosm. Opened 2 years ago by siosm.

We've unfortunately hit an issue in Fedora Silverblue/Kinoite that broke updates: https://github.com/fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker/issues/322

The workaround is simple but it needs to be manually run on the systems for updates to work again, in the command line or in the graphical interface (mostly Silverblue as Kinoite only does command line updates).

I'll write an article so that we can give this issue more visibility than a GitHub issue as this will likely impact a lot of Fedora Silverblue/Kinoite 36 users.

@siosm Please let us know when you have this article ready to review/edit by leaving a comment here on this issue.
Thank you.

@siosm I see an entry in the WordPress post that says "$ TODO" that seems to indicate that this article still has some more to finish.

Do you have an update on this? It sounds like this article should go out relatively soon, given the nature of the issue it is describing. Thanks for any further information.

I can see the entry title in the list of posts, but the entry title is not a hyperlink...so unless there's some very unobvious way to see it, I think I need additional permissions.

(Personally the way I think blogs should work is be generated from markdown stored in a git repository...then "see draft of blog post" is exactly the same as "look at pull request"...)

@walters If you are an editor or author for the Magazine in WordPress, the title should be a link to the WP editor and should open the article. Alternative may be to select the "Preview" link that appears below the title when you hover over the title. (I'm not positive about that for non-authors.)

I'm certain the magazines workflow is not ready for that atm. The document can be written entirely in markdown offline in your favourite editor then dropped into the WP post.

@siosm,
Do you need someone to help with getting this post out? Or is @walters doing that?

We're trying to make sure the fix is complete before we write an article that will make noise. We're working on it.

I've double verified the commands in the article (Manual action required to update Fedora Silverblue, Kinoite and IoT (version 36)) and I think we're ready to publish it.

Please reach out to me before doing any edits to make sure the meaning remains the same.

Let me know if anything else is needed.

Thanks!

I just made an attempt at a cover image. It is a pocket watch with the hands stuck pointing at 3 and 6.

@siosm I made 2 modification to your article:
- changed the "2" in GRUB2 so it was not pre-formatted and followed the text "GRUB" properly
- made the http text at the end of the article to an actual link.

I will schedule this article for this Friday 9 Sept if all is well.

LGTM. Thanks. The image looks weird on the preview with a white text on gray background but that's minor.

It's online. Thanks everyone for the help.
