#527 Consider preinstalling KAppTemplate by default with relevant build tools
Opened a year ago by akselmo. Modified a year ago

KAppTemplate is a tool that allows creation of simple KDE application project "skeletons" that can be then used to create applications and plugins.

I think Fedora KDE should have that preinstalled, so people interested making a KDE app will spot it easier. This lowers the gap of getting started.

Of course, if possible, we should also have the relevant tools preinstalled, such as:

  • git
  • gcc / g++
  • cmake
  • Probably some qt6 devel libraries?

My plan is to hopefully someday:tm: integrate KAppTemplates to Kate text editor (which could also be pre-installed), so that anyone launching Kate will spot it.

Basically I hope to see more KDE apps :) And this could be one way of doing it: Help people to get started quick!

I don't think it makes sense for us to pre-install it as we don't pre-install development tools in the first place if we can help it, but we can absolutely make it easy to have it when people install development tools. We can make it a weak dependency of Kate or anything else that can take advantage of it, for example.

That could also work, definitely.
