#41 Create Classic/Kinoite KDE Plasma mobile images for PinePhone
Opened 3 years ago by siosm. Modified 9 months ago

Fedora should have support for the PinePhone in Rawhide now so we could package Plasma Mobile specific packages and create classic/Kinoite aarch64 images for this platform.

We can probably work with someone from the Fedora Mobility SIG on this. @kevin is the maintainer of that SIG and may be able to help us here.

There's not too much support yet for vanilla fedora. @pbrobinson is working on uboot and lighting up the display, but then we need networking, etc.

The remix is in better shape because it's using a patched/third party kernel and uboot ( https://github.com/nikhiljha/pp-fedora-sdsetup )

You can of course start packaging stuff now, and once we have things working enough we can look at making an image.

Hello, I started to package plasma-mobile apps and review would be awesome. Also gonna add maui framework and maui apps as well.

Kweather and kweather-core (core need first)

Thanks for doing that! Will definitely help make Flatpaks later.

here's the ticket to mobile SIG about collaborating on a Fedora Mobile Edition,

I've filed a request with the Fedora Council to fund us for PinePhone Pro devices to make Fedora Mobile Edition possible: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/380

@ngraham , I'm going to push new plasma mobile packages and based on that meeting we had this week, we wonder is plasma-dialer and space-bar going to move "modem-manager" and leave "ofono stack" so I can drop those packages. But we don't know estimate, so what's your opinion about it. Should we add or wait a bit so we can move into directly to modemmanager ?

Related issue link (dialer) : https://invent.kde.org/plasma-mobile/plasma-dialer/-/issues/39

Thank you.

I'm not actively involved in Plasma Mobile so I can't offer anything intelligent on the subject, sorry.

Thanks for working on this though!

@ngompa,I reach out to, plasma-mobile team members in matrix channel. They are going to add modemmanager into dialer (approx time is "next month") and rest of them already ready but they didn't release because they all waiting for "dialer" to finish. When it is all done we can give green light and drop ofono and go for modemmanager route. While we wait, I'm going to package other packages apps and when it is ready we can also push for dialer/sms/mms apps as well.

For mtp-server, I'm going to wait and not the package for that one too (again based on conversion I had with plasma-channel too)

PS : I already check spacebar(sms) and others and yes in their last master repo they already dropped "ofono-qt" stack and start using "modemmanager-qt" .

I think all Plasma-Mobile apps are built in coprs now - all we need is getting them into Rawhide. KDE SIG - pls try to get them there. See https://pagure.io/fedora-mobility/issue/10

I build some test images for the PinePhone (NON-pro). If any of you have that - please test, and tell me how to fix "all problems" there :-)

2 years l8r ..........
Since there is clearly NO interest in the KDE-SIG about this subject, and really NO-one for 2 years trying to do anything for official Plasma-mobile images to ever land in Fedora, I can only say, that I'm out now.
There will be no more PinePhone(pro) images coming from me - it is simply way to much work to keep up to date on Rawhide for me.

I believe all the required packages are in the Fedora repositories now. I did start on a comps group but that's not really necessary for a build, just reduces the number of packages listed in a kickstart file from my understanding.

I was fairly new to Fedora KDE SIG at the time so wasn't on the list of people who received the Pinephones for testing.

I do have a OnePlus6 I bought for testing and have with the Fedora Mobility team's help got Fedora running on it but haven't had time to tinker much past that.
