#381 Kinoite: preinstall wireguard-tools
Closed: Fixed 17 days ago by siosm. Opened 2 years ago by boredsquirrel.

I think this would be very practical. Its well integrated into the GUI networkmanager applet and settings, and works pretty flawlessly.

It has no additional dependencies not provided as far as I know.

The parent discussion for adding that was in https://github.com/fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker/issues/390.

In general, we include GUI tools, and let CLI tools be run via containers for users that need it.

It seems as though the lack of this package causes brokenness on WireGuard connections added in NetworkManager. Why include half of WireGuard but not all of it?

Can you explain what is broken in the NetworkManager support?

PostUp/PostDown and all CLI support is missing. Silverblue lacks it too yet they admit only half the functionality is there.

The package is ≈115 KB. Why are we shipping half of WireGuard but not all of it when the rest of it takes so little disk? Even the creator of WireGuard says it's required, and I can see why.

It comes down to https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/353#comment-834724, in that we don't expect users to setup WireGuard using the CLI. But I agree that it's not a big package so we could consider adding it again.
