Hello @kamiraimei! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hi.
I'm Farhan, currently working as the Head of IT Department for a medium size company. A long time linux user, and in the past few years I stick with Fedora as my default both at work and home. After years of using FOSS, I think it's time for me to at least contribute to it, as one of the things to strike in my bucket list.
A brief history.
I use and involved in FOSS since my college days, primarily Ubuntu at the time, being a computer science major (funny enough, I'm the only one in my batch to use linux as a primary OS for school).
During that time, I actively develop custom android ROMs, being one of the developer for Intel Graphics Modded drivers (this was the late 2000s for both windows and macOS kexts) and actively joining our local Open Source groups for talks, presentations and even expos. So I am experienced with mailing list communications and collaborating with others within an organization.
Moving up to my career path, I started as an Apple Specialist / Sales for several years before having a chance to join another company specializing in naval systems. I am assigned as a system engineer/integrator for naval ships control systems (based on Windows NT and BSD) for controlling multiple zones of PLCs and sensors. I don't have much programming background, and what I had learned in college wouldn't apply now as new technologies emmerg, but I can carry myself in bash, python, C++ and frontend development.
Currently I am the Head of IT Department where me and my team planned, execute and maintain serveral infrastructure deployment and VMs for our company internal services. Here I am primarily working with VM deployment, using Docker as our primary service container and networking stacks across 3 branches. Sadly our servers is Windows Server with several VMs running under HyperV, we will planned a total revamp soon, so hopefully my proposal for a new server will be approved soon. I'm planning to use it as our main containered application server using Fedora CoreOS.
On my personal side, I use Fedora KDE on both my PC and laptop. On my free time, I usually either play games (steam mostly) or trying different projects to pass time (currently I'm trying to recreate a galaga clone game from scratch while learning godot)
Skills I could say I do excel in documentations, I understand the document flow from the user side of things. So far I have no issues with the documents I have created for my current and previous company. Other than that, I can still provide technical support, as part of my responsibilities during my time with Apple is providing support to clients effectively with minimal technical confusion.
I personally enjoy photography, specially street photography, and also music. I don't have prefered genre however.
Communication wise, I prefer matrix as I have it installed on my phone, mailing list also works but I will usually check my mail at morning and the evening. Here's my contact informations.

Feel free to ask any questions/details that I might have missed Best regards.
