Hello @pandafoss ! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
About mi experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems
I discovered Linux at a very young age, but I started using it on a daily basis when I started college. I have participated in a few events such as Hacktoberfest and a FLISoL that took place in my town a few years ago. As an Arch Linux user, I contributed to Anarchy Linux, an installer for that operating system (currently deprecated). After a while I became one of the two main maintainers. I participate in several groups (mainly Telegram) related to Linux, some of which I administer. Three years ago I started working full time, which significantly reduced my free time and thus the amount of time I spent on this kind of projects. Today I am back with the desire to do my bit for Fedora, a project I have admired for a long time.
About my background/skills
I currently use Ubuntu every day on the notebook provided by the company I work for. But I also have a small external drive with Fedora that I use in my spare time. At the time of writing, I am the manager of an engineering team. I'm familiar with observability technologies like Prometheus, Alertmanager, and Grafana, and I work with others like Puppet, Jenkins, and GitLab. I like automation and scripting, mostly using Bash and Python (Golang is a language I don't know but am interested in). I have been a sysadmin for a while. I don't consider myself an expert in anything, except self-taught and proactive.
About my experience in communication platforms
I have been on mailing lists before, although it is not my preferred form of contact. I currently use Telegram on a daily basis. There, as I mentioned above, is where I manage some groups.
Finally, regarding the time I can spend to volunteering, it is difficult for me to estimate, but I could say about three or four hours per week. I prefer it to be small and constant, rather than wanting to give hours and hours a week and giving up in a few months.

My area is infrastructure, to which I would like to contribute. However, I would accept to start with different tasks, even non-technical, until I become familiar with the community. For example, contribute in Python development, maintain some package or translate to Spanish, my native language.
Hi @pandafoss : the infrastructure team has a well defined system for new contributors, so you can take a look at that to see what you think:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/GettingStarted
You can help maintain packages, or you can maintain your own packages:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/
Finally, for translations, all one has to do is work on the weblate instance:

Hi pandafoss,
How have you found the Fedora ecosystem?
I'm just checking in on your 'welsome to Fedora' ticket.
If there is anything we can do for you let us know.
Regards, Mat
Hi Pandafoss, Let us know if we can help you get into Fedora more. There is a cool mailserver I would like packaged, xmox.nl :) On the Matrix there is an infrastructure channel and they solve problems in real-time. I'm on Telegram, its my favourite messenger, what channels do you have there?
Cheers, Mat
