Hello @harshmangal ! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org
.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

For reference, the introduction is here

@harshmangal took the initiative to have this https://pagure.io/design/issue/714#comment-712868 ticket assigned to himself. Much appreciated!

Hi @harshmangal : would you also please subscribe to the Fedora India mailing list and introduce yourself there? We're restarting regular meetings and that'll be a great way to meet other contributors from the region.

I did that, feel free to invite me for the meetings I am always here for this beautiful community!

hey @t0xic0der,
I am very well and was just occupied with some other things, looking to contribute in python based projects help me out in finding some beginner friendly issues.

Hi @harshmangal,

You would be able to find some self-contained and well-documented easy tickets here https://fedoraproject.org/easyfix/.

Since we're downstream, I guess the main Python related work in the community is packaging related. So, you can take a look at the python packages you use and see what bugs there are for them and see if you'd like to work on fixing them. It could be something trivial as a package update, or it could be more serious bugs where you could send patches upstream.

The Python SIG folks are also testing all our packages against Python 3.10 already (it'll land in Fedora 35), and quite a few of these packages need minor updates. Take a look at the bugs blocking this tracker bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1890881

It's a great way of helping Fedora package maintainers, and upstream developers at the same time :)

Here is an example for pypet where I sent a simple patch upstream:

I'm carrying the patch in the package until upstream makes a new release:

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pypet/blob/rawhide/f/0001-fix-py3.10-correct-collections-related-imports.patch

Hey there,

We really hope that you were able to find something in the community that piques your interest (and if you were, we would absolutely love to hear about it). If not, please feel free to reach out to us with your questions/concerns and we would be glad to help you out. :-)

Hey there,

Hope you are doing well and enjoyed your time with us at Nest With Fedora 2021. Should you have missed out on our talks, a recording of those would be made available very soon on our official YouTube channel. I reach out to know if you have found something exciting to contribute to and be a part of in the community. With that, I am marking this ticket with its third and final progress check.
