#59 Welcome to Fedora @astitva3377
Closed: C: Inactive 2 years ago by t0xic0der. Opened 3 years ago by ankursinha.

Hello @astitva3377 ! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org
.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

Thank you for the issue, @ankursinha. I have sent an introduction to the list.

Hello @astitva3377 and welcome.
A quick note :-) A FLOSS community like Fedora is not just made up of developers. Not to say that the majority of software you can find in Fedora is developed upstream, then they are packaged in the distribution.
Yes, people often looks at a software community like a group of developers and sysadmins, but the Fedora Community also needs designers, bloggers, videomakers, friends, passionate people, document writers. So if you want to contribute only with the intent to write code... I fear you will look elsewhere.
So, what you can do? My advices.
Look around. Chat with us. Help people on Ask Fedora. Read the documentation; if you will find an error, report it or help to write a better document. Every little contribution is important.
If you find a bug, report it [1]. Maybe with your programming languages skills you will be able to diagnose the bug and submit a patch. Then you will know new people and they will know you, maybe you will get actively involved in some other task, and so on.

@alciregi, thank you for the advice. I will check everything around and surely contribute to any and every field I can.

Hey @astitva3377, it has been a while since we have heard from you. How is it going? Did you find anything interesting to work on? Also, should you have questions or queries - feel free to comment under this ticket and we'd be pleased to answer.

Hey, I am really sorry but I had to take some time off because of exams. I did find an issue that I could work on and I'll start today itself. The issue is related to statistics localization so is there any specific channel I should join or the Telegram join SIG will do?

Again, I'm sorry I lost track. I'll try to be more active. Thank you.

Volunteership is awesome but it should never be at the cost of things which are important. Take your time and feel free to let us know if there are blockers that Join SIG can help you with. For the statistics localization, you would want to reach out the L10N team via the mailing list or Matrix/IRC with your questions.

Don't feel sorry for not being active though but do let us know when you'd be absent from contributions for some time as that helps to shift stuff assigned to you to someone else who can be available at that time. Plus it keeps us from worrying about your health too. :smiley_cat:

Hi,

It has been a while since the last time we heard from you. I hope you are doing well and I just dropped by to see if you have found something interesting to work on. :-)

We love interacting so please feel free to reach out to us if there are any questions/concerns that you may have regarding how you can contribute to our projects.

Hey there,

Please note that this is the final progress check we are making from our end - failing to respond to in seven days of which - we would close this ticket. Don't worry though - we understand that there can be circumstances due to which you are unable to devote time but you can come back later too and continue contributing from wherever you left off.

We did not hear back from the assignee for some time so I am going ahead and closing the ticket. The assignee is free to come back anytime, reopen the ticket and continue on from wherever they left off.
