Welcome to Fedora, Vikesh (@vikeshbaid) !

It was great chatting to you on the channel. As a first step, could you tell us a little about yourself here? What are your interests, what would you like to learn? It doesn't have to be anything specific---the idea is that you can take your time to explore Fedora and see what you would like to do

Hi Fedora community
My name is Vikesh Baid. I am a software engineer from India. I am a big fan of opensource. I love programming and i loved to contribute to Fedora.

I tried Bodhi some time ago but due to some issue with my system, I can't move forward with it.

Did you try it in order to give a feedback to an update still in the testing repository?

@alciregi actually it was not set up properly into my system. Whenever I tried to start the bodhi project in my system it hangs.

I guess either I set it up wrongly or my system's ram was low.

Uh. So you try to deploy the software. I understand.

@vikeshbaid : deploying bodhi is slightly too technical for general community members to be able to help with. There is some information in the developer documentation, but I assume you already know this: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/docs/developer/index.html

Have you tried contacting the Fedora-applications team that work on bodhi? You can find them here:

Could you reach out to them and see what you find?

Yes, I have contacted them via freenode and they directed me to the procedure to deploy it correctly. But the way ( using Vagarant ) I was trying has to do something with it. I am thinking that my system's ram was low for the process.

Now, I will try with virtualenv as soon as I get a better Internet connection.

Lovely---hope that works. Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with.

Hi guys,

I was thinking to start contributing through QA. I have applied to the group using my FAS account and also sent an introductory mail. Waiting for the approval, can anyone guide me towards the next step.

Very good.
Probably in some days, someone from the QA team will sponsor your membership and will send an email summarizing what you can do.

Hello @vikeshbaid did you read some documents?

QA activity is somewhat simple.
For instance you could start testing packages in the updates-testing repository and give karma on bodhi. https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/how-can-i-test-updates-and-provide-karma/1360
Obviously you should test packages you actually use. (And if they don't work, you can downgrade the package).
As well as kernel updates: if something doesn't work, you can easily reboot with the previous version.
Well, it could look risky, even if personally I have updates-testing enabled on my work laptop and I had not any disastrous issue. So if you don't feel confident, you should use a spare PC where to perform your tests.

@vikeshbaid : I approved your QA membership (not that you need it much at the moment). Please go ahead and test updates and let us know how that goes

Hi @vikeshbaid --- how is it going? Have you been testing updates? Any questions/queries/suggestions? All feedback is welcome! :)

If you are interested, let's us know!

Hi @vikeshbaid : how are you doing these days? How is your QA work going? What can we do to help?

Hey @vikeshbaid If we don’t get a response in the next 7 days, we’ve not seen activity and we’ll have no choice but to close the ticket.

Closing the ticket is only a formal and operational to ask, then if you like, you can get in touch again with us using the various communication channels.

Please re-open the ticket whenever you wish and you can continue your journey into Fedora where you left off
