Hello @nekonya3! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hello there!
Experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
I am new to FOSS and this is my first time contributing to open source. I wish to learn and gain more skills from this experience. I had used open source design applications such as KRITA, inkspace, synfig studio and blender before, but I had not really attempted to report the bugs I had found or contribute to their code. I had always felt that only good developers do that and designers don't generally.
Background/skills:
I have been a part of Information Management Group (IMG) at my institute (IIT Roorkee, India) for the last 1 year. We, as a group, aim to design and develop applications for the students and faculty members of the institute to ease their institute life. I had been a part of the group solely as a designer but I had learnt frontend and backend development as a part of their training program in my first year (freshmen year).
I make use of Windows OS mainly. I had installed linux on my system but I haven't used it ever since I completed my learning of backend development and I found that I was more interested in design. But since I have linux on my system, I can always tap into it.
I am versed with design applications such as Figma and KRITA (ver. 4.0 to 5.0), and I have a fair idea about inkscape, Adobe illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and am open to learn new software. I have experience in animation applications such as Adobe Flash, KRITA and Figma. I am a music instrumentalist since I can play flute, keyboard, xylophone and Sitar. I have never really tried video editing or music mixing but because I am good at playing music, I have a good sense of tunes and notes, I am confident that with practice I can make good mixes and videos. I am good at English and Hindi, but I know a bit of French and Japanese as well.
I am comfortable in using GitHub. I can pull off most of the major git command lines. I have learned about Web Development, though I feel design is my home.
In communication platforms:
I have received emails from google groups mailing lists before but I have never created one before. I have used discord, messenger, whatsapp, slack and telegram before but I am open to use any other new application.
I can devote around 25-30 hours per week on volunteering.
