#159 Welcome to Fedora, @itotutona
Opened 2 years ago by itotutona. Modified 4 months ago

Hello @itotutona! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org
.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.

Then, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the
community can get to know you? (interests, skills, anything you wish to say
about yourself really)

In the meantime, these links would be a good read. They tell you what the
Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora:
what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)

Hi,
I'm interested by Development, could you help to chose a contribution ?
Thank

Have you had a look at the links yet? Any SIGs/teams that interest you?

(The way this works is that we help you learn enough about Fedora so you can see what fits your interests on your own.)

Great. So the electronic lab and scitech SIGs require you to be a package maintainer---since what we do there is package tools in these particular usage domains and make them available to Fedora users. So if you want to go down that road, starting with the package maintainers would be your first step:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/

Infrastructure of course has it's own requirements---they have an excellent joining process:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure#Contribute_to_Fedora_Infrastructure

There's an active websites and applications team that you can also join. @t0xic0der can help you with onboarding there. They hang out here, so maybe go say hello?

https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/c/project/websites/66

Try and maybe get to know folks in the community first---that's how you keep up with everything that goes on in Fedora. :)

Hello,
I would like to join the l10n group and the packager group but I don't know how.
Can you help me.
Thank you

@itotutona Be aware you are in the beginning taking too much responsabilities in this step is not a good idea

Take your journey step by step when you are well integrated in the community you can get more Responsabilities.

Said that, Well you can contact both team in two form
1. Via Irc in libera.chat
2. Via mailing list

Use this media and make an introduction there

But remember we are community members and response sometimes takes time

Regards., hth

@hhlp I understand, but how do we go about participating and therefore integrating into the community?

BTW Joining the translation team is pretty easy.
- subscribe to the mailing list [0]
- send a brief introduction, in which language/s you are willing to translate
- look if there are other members that perform translations in your language
- go to the trlanslation platform [1] and start translating! :-)
- you can find more informations in the wiki page (beware that some parts are outdated) [2]

[0] https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/trans@lists.fedoraproject.org/
[1] https://translate.fedoraproject.org/
[2] https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N

You're already doing it by speaking to the community here :)

Join more communication channels, especially for projects youd like to gey
involved in. Engage in discussions there, keep an eye on whats going on,
and that way youll be able to jump in to take on tasks when you think you
can.

Hi @alciregi

I'm very sad, Duckduckgo hasn't answered me yet. Maybe soon ?

I'm very sad, Duckduckgo hasn't answered me yet. Maybe soon ?

Excuse me, what do you mean?

I said duckduckgo hasn't answered me yet. And that I'm still waiting for their answer

Sorry. Maybe I lost some piece. What does he have to do Duckduckgo with Fedora? Or specifically with this ticket?

@itotutona

This is just a follow ping of this ticket:

Reason

1.- We don't have any notice from your part for a long time.
2.- We don't know anything about your Progress or Impediment which you can have in your journey to applied to be a member of a fedora community and helping you in this aspect.
3.- This is the last step of this ticket, the next check will cause the close of this ticket, however this step is not final, you can come again and reactivate this ticket when you will be available or have time to start again your progress here in the community.
